Distrusting the Chinese has been the smartest approach since roughly 1949. I still don’t know why we keep calling what was really the Great Vertical Leap the Great Leap Forward, because all that happened was that, after rising a few meters, Mao and his entire bloated repressive apparatus fell straight back down onto the heads of the Chinese people. What is still taught in schools as the Cultural Revolution was, in fact, the application to the Chinese of the same extermination technique Mao had previously tested on sparrows. To exterminate sparrows, Mao instructed the entire population to keep frightening them constantly, usually by banging pots and pans, so that, exhausted after countless failed attempts to escape in every direction, they simply collapsed. This is exactly what Mao did to the Chinese people during the Cultural Revolution.
When dealing with China, it is worth remembering that, for the communist regime, the entire West is a vast infestation of sparrows. That is why they never stop banging their pots and pans, even if they now do so in more discreet ways, sometimes through ultrasonic means.
China in 2026 has two faces. The diplomatic one, almost always smiling and cooperative, and the real one: the old, dirty tactics of communism, now refined and upgraded with the latest technologies.
Last May, Donald Trump visited Xi Jinping in China. Unfortunately, China is now the “Chinese giant,” and I suppose there is no way to deal with its constant threat other than by trying to normalize relations that will never truly be normal. It is a bit like working with your ex-girlfriend in the same department, the one you broke up with in the middle of a huge fight. Since you still have to see her every morning and deal with work matters, the only option is to maintain a kind of forced cordiality, however cynical that may be. However, China in 2026 has two faces. The diplomatic one, almost always smiling and cooperative, and the real one: the old, dirty tactics of communism, now refined and upgraded with the latest technologies. That is why, while you extend your hand to Xi in Beijing, you should keep a revolver in the other hand pointed at your house, ready to fire warning shots at any intruder who seems to struggle to open their eyes in the sunlight. The report Behind the Climate Curtain, by the National Association of Scholars, is one of the most worrying documents I have read in a long time. And the worst part is that it merely puts names and structure to feelings and scattered data that many of us have already been noticing. In short, it argues that California has become a kind of pilot project for the CCP, which, if successful, they would like to extend across the entire United States, ultimately turning their great enemy into a covert satellite of that disgusting dictatorship. (RELATED: The Quiet Architecture of Chinese Influence)
For years, the CCP has used its alliances with the University of California to promote the Chinese agenda on energy and technology, materialized in climate cooperation agreements, ratified by California laws in 2021, and institutionalized through the California-China Climate Institute. Of course, the Chinese climate agenda is — and pay close attention here — Chinese, not American, and certainly not Western. And the entry of Chinese officials into California’s political and research networks represents a massive security breach for the nation. Before that, it is important to understand that Xi Jinping cares about green policies or saving the planet about as much as I care about the sexual habits of the cashew tree. The green agenda so enthusiastically supported by the idiots at the U.N. and European elites is the most effective form of Chinese infiltration of the last century, at least if we set aside the great coronavirus pandemic hoax, on which, to this day, Beijing still refuses to provide full access to all available information regarding the lab leak. I suppose that if you ask the officials involved in that act of war, they will still smile with narrowed eyes and say: “Pangolin, pangolin.”
Another characteristic of the Chinese communists is that they do not only see us as sparrows, but are convinced we have the brains of sparrows as well, which makes sense, considering how long Joe Biden was their main American interlocutor.
Xi Jinping’s main concern has never been saving the planet, but selling us cheap electric cars and flooding the West with solar panels and wind turbines that are as profitable as they are Chinese-made. Nor do I believe the West should lift a finger to save the planet while India and China do nothing about it. But in any case, if you are going to act, the stupidest thing you can do is replace your beautiful, noisy diesel and gasoline cars with cheap Chinese bazaar junk that, instead of roaring, buzzes like a bee and causes spectacular, highly polluting fires every time a battery decides that living at the back of a garage is not worth it. The main conclusion after reading the report is that the CCP must be expelled from all Western universities and institutions. The report argues that U.S. universities are vulnerable to Chinese influence through funding, joint research, talent recruitment, and propaganda. This is not new, but it is now documented in detail so that politicians can no longer pretend ignorance. It would also be interesting to know which politicians are cooperating in this infiltration and, above all, how much they are being paid for it. The only time something similar was investigated in Europe, what was uncovered was so outrageous that the entire EU bureaucratic structure nearly collapsed. It didn’t happen. What a pity.
My argument is that they must be expelled, and I do not care how. If you want, you can do it with polite words and idiotic smiles, as they would do themselves, but the outcome must be a purge that contributes to a healthier atmosphere on the planet, a freer United States, and a better world to live in. Perhaps it is time for China to understand that Americans are not sparrows, but eagles.
