We Are the Conservatives (An Alternative Rhetoric for CPAC)

We are the conservatives, and we like good, truth, and beauty. That is, we like Pope John Paul II, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Ivanka Trump. We also like beer, but I don’t want to detract from the solemnity of the moment.

We are the conservatives, and we don’t believe in the natural goodness of human beings, maybe because we know we are imperfect, maybe because more than once we have looked evil in the face, maybe because one day we learned that Hunter Biden had a computer.

We are the conservatives, and we believe that government, more often than not, is the problem, not the solution.

We are the conservatives, and we believe that any climate solution that ruins family economies is immoral and should be opposed. Most of us think that climate change is an excuse used by the Left to impose a totalitarian system and that man’s action has no bearing on the temperature. Especially when the only man acting on it is the Western man, while man in truly polluting countries takes advantage of our green epiphany.

We are the conservatives, and we respect our ancestors, we are proud of our historical successes and mistakes, and we embrace the Constitution because we know that it is the rule of law’s guarantee for a life of peace and freedom.

We are the conservatives, and we do not idolize that which they call progress. We prefer prosperity.

We are the conservatives, and we like freedom, individual property, and life. We like life so much that we defend it from beginning to end, and we oppose outright the murder of babies and elderly alike, as well as the disgusting industry getting rich on their blood.

We are the conservatives, and the word “taxes” makes us break out in a rash.

We are the conservatives, and we don’t read mainstream press, but we have plenty of magazines to cheer us up at breakfast.

We are the conservatives, and we care about language. We abhor the attacks that the Left promotes against our languages, whether in the form of unhinged pronouns or in the form of euphemism to mold minds through language.

We are the conservatives, and our mission is to preserve tradition and cultural baggage. We reject any attempt by those on the left to cancel works, books, movies, or historical figures. We will raise every statue they tear down. We will reprint every book they burn.

We are the conservatives, and I’m sorry to say it, but our girls are prettier. If you don’t believe me, take a look at the MAGA youth on social networks, Milei’s collaborators in Argentina, or the girls who go to Vox rallies in Spain.

We are the conservatives, and to us communism is a crime, socialism, a robbery.

We are the conservatives, and we believe in national sovereignty and international cooperation. We oppose the globalism that seeks to leave local decisions in foreign hands. Especially if those hands are those of George Soros and Bill Gates, who, more than hands, have hooks.

We are the conservatives, and we do not sit down to negotiate with terrorists.

We are the conservatives, and we generally believe in the transcendence of human life, we believe that there is something beyond, and we believe that God cares about the destinies of our nations.

We are the conservatives, and we can argue among ourselves without purging each other as the communists do. We can discuss whether Milei’s prescription is the one to get Argentina out of bankruptcy, whether we should continue to back the Ukrainian war with our money, or whether protectionism is the way forward in America. We can discuss all of that freely because we are looking for the best political solution, and we know that the best political solution does not exist.

We are the conservatives, and we are so crazy that we believe the human species is divided only into two sexes, male and female.

We are the conservatives, and we are living a great moment. We have the best solutions for the worst problems, as the speeches of Donald Trump, Argentina’s Javier Milei, El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele, or Spain’s Santiago Abascal at CPAC prove. Maybe we just have to explain it well, explain it a lot, and explain it all the time.
