Elton John is coming to Tampa. Be still my heart.
That’s Sir Elton, to you, which shows how far the UK has devolved culturally. Superannuated rockers now carry the same honorific as Sir Winston Churchill.
Fortunately, tonight’s sing-along will be at the Sun Dome, on the campus of the University of South Florida, a dozen miles from my house. Trent Merrill, general manager of the Dome, which has recently undergone a $35 million lift and tuck, has pronounced himself thrilled with the booking. I’m happy for him.
I hope and trust Sir Elton will serenade the locals with his most famous and most mawkish number, “A Candle Breaking Wind.”
