Mark Udall Gets Heckled Over His Abortion-Focused Campaign
by

Mark Udall is taking his “Mark Uterus” persona down to the wire. The sitting Colorado Senator, who has literally talked about nothing for months except how supportive he is of women who want to terminate their pregnancies (despite the obvious impact on his next generation of constituents), has now proven that he will stop at nothing – absolutely nothing – to assure you of how committed he is that you, ladies of Colorado and perhaps all of America, are able to take full advantage of Planned Parenthood’s most popular service.

Unfortunately for Mark Udall, the #WaronWomen is over and the Democrats seem to have lost. Not only did the Denver Post call his single-issue campaign “obnoxious” but today, one of his biggest donors tried his hand at altering the Udall campaign strategy, with just 24 hours left to go.

The crowd cheered and autumn leaves fluttered about the senator like confetti.

Then, finally, came the only reference to policy in [Mark] Udall’s speech. “And by the way, I’m proud to stand with Colorado’s women,” he said, almost as an aside. “I’m proud to stand for reproductive freedom.”

An angry voice from the crowd jeered: “That’s not the only thing you stand for! Jesus Christ!”

Udall turned to a short, dark man on his left. The senator look genuinely stunned. “I’m sorry?”

The heckler was Leo Beserra, a Wall Street investor whose been pumping money into the Colorado Democratic machine since the early 1990s, as part of the notorious “Blueprint” that was supposed to turn Colorado into a permanently Democratic stronghold. He followed up his heckling by grousing to The Guardian on his way out of the event and, presumably, staring in quiet disgust at his bank account on his mobile banking app.

Udall, for his part, thinks his strategy is working, and that the numbers support his focus (untrue). He also told supporters to “ignore the polls,” because the “tide was turning” in his direction (also untrue) so whatever Udall is using to calculate his turnout model is probably not Nate Silver quality (who by the way, says that Cory Gardner has a 72% chance of swiping the seat from Sen. Uterus). All Mark Udall can do now is openly threaten his voters that the Republicans will be reposessing vaginas unless they get out to vote. Which kind of makes you sad for Beserra, really.

Okay, not really. But at least, in one state, Obama won’t have to contend with being the top reason for a loss.
