Anti-Israel White House Interns Publicly Rebel Against Joe Biden

by

A group of 40 White House and Executive Office of the President interns sent a letter to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday to shame them for supporting Israel and to demand that they call for a “permanent ceasefire” in the Israel–Hamas conflict. The interns deemed Israel’s actions in the conflict to be “an ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people” and said that they “will no longer remain silent.”

“We are Palestinian, Jewish, Arab, Muslim, Christian, Black, Latine, White, and Queer,” the interns said. “We heed the voices of the American people and call on the Administration to demand a permanent ceasefire.” The letter was first published by NBC News.

The letter was a stab in the face to the administration, which notably is the first to pay its interns. Starting in the fall of 2022, White House interns receive academic credit and are paid $750 a week, which is akin to a $39,000-a-year salary.

Biden’s interns drew an equivalency between the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack and Israel’s efforts to defend itself, saying, “We were horrified by the brutal October 7th Hamas attack on Israeli citizens, and we are horrified by the brutal and genocidal response by the Israeli government, funded by our American tax dollars, which has killed over 14,000 innocent Palestinian civilians in Gaza, a large percentage of whom are children.” The interns also accused Israeli of “apartheid.”

“[T]he ongoing violence perpetuation by the Israeli government, as well as the ongoing dehumanizing rhetoric targeting Muslims and Arabs,” the interns said, “has promoted a wave of massive violence and tragedies, including the brutal shooting of three Palestinian students in Vermont and the murder of a Palestinian 6-year-old boy in Chicago.”

The White House interns are not the only ones in the Biden administration to write such a letter, as numerous other officials in his administration have done so, including 500 political appointees who sent a similar letter last week. These letters demonstrate that a large portion of Biden’s ranks have been radicalized to oppose Israel’s right to defend itself — and that Biden is failing to rein in such radicalism within his own administration.

The interns who signed the letter chose to remain anonymous and gave only their races and religions.
