Rudy’s Perilous Path

by

Earlier today, I argued that a Romney win in Michigan wouldn’t be sufficient for him to make up for his losses in Iowa and New Hampshire, given his weakness nationally. I wonder if the same should be said for Rudy winning Florida. If Giuliani wins the Sunshine State, it will no doubt revive his campaign and seem to validate his late state strategy at first glance. But there are a lot of other troubling signs for his campaign.

Giuliani became a viable national candidate due to his name recognition, fundraising, high favorability ratings, strength on national security, and electability. In many of those categories, he is losing out to McCain right now, and I’m not sure that one victory in Florida can overcome the steady decline in public perception of him in those key areas.
