I’m not going to make too big a production out of this, because the headline does most of the work, but in the aftermath of Tuesday’s primary elections in a number of places and specifically in New York, where in more than a half-dozen congressional races a bunch of unemployable communist revolutionaries — rank pillagers if ever any existed — knocked off more establishment-type Democrat incumbent pols, it’s worth asking a question or two.
The Democrat Party isn’t quite where the Republicans were a decade ago. It used to be that you could make some equivalences between the two parties, as they were generally flip sides of each other around a political consensus in which the basic elements of the social contract were agreed on; there was a general understanding as to the social goods the public sector was charged with providing, and our national arguments were about how best to provide those social goods. Then, you could look at the state of one of the two parties and make analogies from various points in our political history.
But that doesn’t quite work, does it?
The outgoing leadership cadre in the Democrat Party has certainly run itself into the ground. There is little question in that. You can’t look at a single leader among the modern Democrat Party who offers new ideas or approaches or even differs with the orthodoxy in any real respect. Today’s go-to maverick among Democrats is John Fetterman, but that’s only because he’s willing to call out the “dirtbag Left” once in a while. Fetterman doesn’t even vote opposite the hardcore loons on the Democrat side, unless the subject is Israel. (RELATED: Champagne Socialism Comes to America)
The Democratic Socialists of America are doing to the Democrats what the MAGAs did to the GOP…
There are no moderate Democrats left in the political class in this country. It’s a pretty good bet there are lots of moderate voters left on that side, but they don’t run for office, and when they do, they certainly don’t win. And the moderate Democrat voters have largely given up on trying to save their party from the George Soros/Neville Roy Singham/anti-American communist horde; they don’t even show up for the primaries. (RELATED: Meet the Mamdani Acolyte Leading the Race to Be DC’s Next Mayor)
This year, in those primaries, we’ve seen the wages of that surrender.
Even the obnoxious neo baby Dan Goldman wasn’t extreme enough for the voters in his New York district. Truth be told, it was always quite apparent that Goldman was a lightweight whose only calling card was his penchant for insulting commentary about Donald Trump. Goldman was clobbered by an anti-ICE communist named Brad Lander, who might actually be a little more relatable for normal people despite the latter’s ideological fetishes; what that race hinted at, however, was that bashing Trump 24/7 only buys you so much street cred within the Democrat party.
At some point, they want the new religion, which turns out to be the same old warmed-over Marxism, whether cultural or economic.
But I would force my analogy above just to make a point. Because a decade ago, the Bushie Republicans had officially run the GOP aground, claiming the mantle of Ronald Reagan (which they still do) despite perverting all of Reagan’s major political virtues and trashing his legacy with the majority of Americans. So discredited was that class of politicians and politicos that the “You’re Fired!” guy from The Apprentice showed up and took the party by storm; Trump seized the initiative and won the 2016 election mostly by offering a clear-eyed look at the failings of the political establishment on issues like trade and immigration, and people were thirsty for practically anything else but the choice between the Mitt Romneys and John McCains of the GOP and the Hillary Clintons and Joe Bidens on the Democrat side. The Democratic Socialists of America are doing to the Democrats what the MAGAs did to the GOP, and that exposes how different the two parties really are.
For all the screaming that Bushie Republicans did about the MAGAs as “extreme” and “stupid” and lots of other chosen pejoratives, most of what Trump has done as president is either non-ideological (scrubbing waste and fraud out of the food stamp program is, for example, simply a basic good-government function, and this is somehow hyper-contentious) or it harkens back to policy preferences which might even have Democrat roots (Trump’s bouts with trade protectionism, for example, though he mostly comes about those as matters of negotiation). But as the 250th birthday of the country approaches, Trump is doing everything he can to push a unified American culture and give Americans lots of big, beautiful things.
For his trouble, he gets assassination plots and open anti-Americanism. And the DSA candidates running amok on the Democrat side of the primaries are the vanguard of this.
Take Darializa Avila Chevalier, for example. She knocked out five-term incumbent Representative Adriano Espaillat in New York’s 13th Congressional District Democratic primary Tuesday night.
Who is Chevalier?
She’s a 32-year-old democratic socialist and community organizer backed by New York’s Muslim communist mayor Zohran Mamdani and the DSA. What qualifies Chevalier for Congress? What achievements has she managed in her 32 years?
Nothing. None. From the bio on her campaign website is this curriculum vitae…
Fourteen years ago, Darializa moved uptown to attend Columbia University. She has been here ever since.
In the years since, Darializa has successfully fought ICE to release immigrants that were illegally detained, and to reunite families separated by ICE. Now, as s a PhD student at CUNY, she studies how the U.S. immigration system criminalizes Black immigrants from Latin America.
While working at Families for Freedom, she helped free Abdikar Mohamed, a U.S. permanent resident from Somalia, from ICE detention. Abdikar was detained for one and a half years due to Trump’s 2017 “Muslim ban.”
When ICE kidnapped her friend Mahmoud Khalil outside his Columbia University apartment in 2025, Darializa got to work. She publicly advocated for his support, participated in protests outside Trump Tower, and arranged support for Mahmoud at court.
As an investigator at a public defenders office in Harlem, Darializa provides legal aid to victims of police brutality. She travels across the district to support families on the worst day of their lives, and to collect evidence to keep innocent New Yorkers out of jail.
Her work has taken her to many NYCHA developments: she knows firsthand how federal disinvestment in public housing has left thousands of Black and brown New Yorkers to live in unsafe and run-down apartments.
Darializa is also an educator who has taught college courses at CUNY Lehman, Columbia, and NYU. While teaching sociology at CUNY Lehman, she noticed many Lehman students entered college without being able to read at the level they’d need to be successful.
Part of this had to do with the conditions many of her working-class students faced at home: they missed class because their apartment flooded, or because they needed to pick up a shift at work. In other cases, it was because our elected officials have failed to fund and protect public education, from pre-K to college.
So she’s a grad student and a law clerk and a full-time communist agitator from the Dominican Republic who openly advertises that she’s out to get this country…
Daraliza Avila Chevalier is a founder of CUAD.
The organization’s stated intentions is to “undermine and eradicate America,” through the use of “violence in America.”

…and this is the new breed of Democrat. It’s now a party made up of people who don’t even bother to hold down a job (James Talarico, for example, makes $80,000 a year as a DEI consultant on top of the $14,000 per year the Texas Senate pays him), who absolutely hate people who do, who choose Palestinian terrorists over Israeli farmers and music fans, who think Somali welfare pirates must be protected at all costs and can’t be sent home, and openly take the side of Iranian mullahs over American servicemen.
Never in American history has a more loathsome and revolutionary political faction existed. The pro-slavery Democrats of the mid-19th century were fundamentally wrong in many respects, with slavery obviously first and foremost among those, but at least they hewed to some of the spirit of the founding of the country, and the structure and mission of the Confederate government were somewhat recognizable as an American idea.
But this? Mamdani, Chevalier, Nithya Raman, the odious Janeese George, who’ll soon be the mayor of Washington, D.C.?
It’s very much a foreign occupation of our big blue cities by a class of people with values that are largely irreconcilable with those of the rest of the country.
When the Bushie Republicans were turned out of power in the GOP by the MAGA crowd, many of them updated their belief systems to meet the new reality, and several profited from the change. Others delighted in their obsolescence, mostly because they found paymasters willing to make it worth their while. And that’s how we got the Bill Kristols, David Frenches, Michael Steeles, and the Lincoln Projects of the world, who for the last 10 years have bitched and complained and performatively declared alliances with the Left.
What now of the Clinton Democrats? Why are we not seeing a similar turning of the coats?
What say you, James Carville? For years, you’ve screeched at the Hard Left and complained that they would destroy your party. Well, now that you’ve been proven correct, now that you had the power to stop it, are you going to knuckle under to the DSA? Are you going to champion a third party to replace the loons of the Hard Left? Will you say, as some of the NeverTrumpers said, that your home must be with the GOP until the contagion on the Left burns itself out?
We won’t hold our breath.
Because the Democrats and Republicans are not flip sides of the same coin. They haven’t been for a long time.
And the Democrats aren’t political adversaries anymore. They’re now enemy agents. And they’re not quiet about it. Act accordingly, and vote these bastards down as best you can, because your country is at stake.
