Last night, Donald Trump boasted that he received the endorsement of Pete Rose with an autographed baseball signed by Rose asking Trump to make America great again.
But it appears that Trump might have tried to pull a fast one. Rose’s attorney Pete Genco said his client “did not send any candidate a baseball or an endorsement.” Genco said that Rose believes the question of which presidential candidate is best is “a decision each voter should decide for him or herself.”
Now is Genco saying someone forged Rose’s signature? Let’s assume that Rose did autography the ball. As Kostya Kennedy at FiveThirtyEight.com notes in a 2014 piece on Rose, the ex-Red is known to inscribe apologies for having shot JFK or breaking up The Beatles. In which case, if Pete Rose is not responsible for the JFK assassination or Paul McCartney’s solo albums then I think we can conclude that Charlie Hustle did not endorse Trump after all.
But I guess this means that we can soon expect Trump to call Rose a loser and not a very good baseball player.
