With less than 48 hours to go before the Ohio GOP Primary, Donald Trump has received the endorsement of Pete Rose.
Trump tweeted an image of a baseball autographed by MLB’s all-time hit leader bearing the following inscription, “Mr. Trump, please make America great again.”
I am not surprised by this endorsement. When MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred rejected Rose’s appeal for reinstatement, Trump blasted the decision. It marked one of the few times I’ve found myself in agreement with Trump in his entire campaign. I also thought it was politically astute on Trump’s part:
Ohio is always an important state when it comes to presidential politics and the Buckeye state still loves Charlie Hustle. Who knows? If it’s Hillary vs. Trump and it comes down to Ohio, it could be going to bat for Pete Rose is what gets Trump into the White House.
Well, it looks like Trump needed Rose to come to bat early. But the same principle applies. If Trump wins Ohio a case could be made that Rose’s endorsement is what brought Ohio Governor John Kasich’s campaign to an end. Charlie Hustle could come up roses for Trump.
