In France, Ségolène Royal has won the Socialist Party’s presidential nomination. Jim Geraghty noted on Wednesday that Royal’s views on Iran aren’t quite what you’d expect from a French Socialist. She and Gaullist frontrunner Nicolas Sarkozy are in a dead heat in the polls. Either would probably be an improvement over Chirac, who’s coyly leaving open the possibility of running for a third term until the last minute, saying he’ll decide in March.
