According to Politico, four-year National Security Advisor Tom Donilon is resigning today to spend more time with his wife. President Obama will appoint UN Ambassador Susan Rice to the position.
President Barack Obama will make the announcement Wednesday during a Rose Garden announcement at which he will also name a replacement for Rice. The U.N. ambassador had been a leading contender to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, but withdrew herself from consideration in December after Republicans sharply criticized her public statements following the Sept. 11, 2012 attack in Benghazi.
Ambassador Rice is infamous for blaming a YouTube video for the Benghazi attacks on five Sunday talk shows. The State Department revised these talking points after the attack, which Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Ambassador Rice, and President Obama all used up to a week after the incident.
