Tea Partiers Plan Gun Filibuster
by

Politico reported yesterday evening that:

Sens. Rand Paul [R-KY], Ted Cruz [R-TX] and Mike Lee [R-UT] are threatening to filibuster gun-control legislation, according to a letter they plan to hand-deliver to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s [D-NV] office on Tuesday.

“We will oppose the motion to proceed to any legislation that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions,” the three conservatives wrote in a copy of the signed letter obtained by POLITICO.

Reid plans to introduce a Democratic proposal that would focus on expanding background checks when the Senate reconvenes on April 8th. The article goes on to note that conservatives are dubious about plans to entertain more restrictive amendments to the bill.

Reid dropped Senator Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) assault weapons ban from the package in the hope of avoiding such a fight, but did say he would allow two amendment votes, one for the entire package, the other limited to the ban of high-capacity magazines.
