With 88% of precincts reporting by 9:40 p.m., Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss leads by more than 300,000 votes over his Democratic challenger Jim Martin in the runoff election. Still more than 100 precincts unreported in Fulton County, but the numbers so far look like a typical Republican victory — solid margins in Cobb and Gwinnett counties, plus North Georgia and the fast-growing “outer ring” exurban counties.
