Christie Takes Down Global Warming Paranoia

New Jersey’s new Republican governor, Chris Christie, is dismantling the global warming alarmists’ infrastructure that was installed by his predecessor, Democrat Jon Corzine, and progressive Web site Commondreams.org is deeply saddened:

Apparently by mutual agreement of the outgoing Corzine and incoming Christie administration, a proposed rule to require monitoring and reporting of emissions of greenhouse gases was allowed to quietly die on January 20, 2010 - one year after it was first proposed. This emission monitoring regime is a key mandate of the state’s Global Warming Response Act. Without monitoring and reporting, New Jersey cannot track emissions or develop a regulatory program to meet the reduction milestones set forth in the Act….

Sweeping executive orders imposing a regulatory moratorium, cost-benefit analysis requirements, and a policy of rolling back to minimum federal standards in the first weeks of the Christie administration make it unlikely that any new plan for greenhouse gas monitoring will ever emerge again from DEP. Several other major environmental and public health policies, such as the recently shelved drinking water standard for perchlorate, a chemical used in rocket fuel, are apparently also destined for the scrap heap.

This Christie anti-regulatory stance is compounded by diversions of $300 million in Clean Energy Funds dedicated to energy efficiency and renewable energy programs. In addition, Governor Christie’s proposed budget for FY 2011, beginning this July, will eliminate funding for the Office of Climate Change and Energy—the office responsible for implementing the Global Warming Response Act—even diverting revenue from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) emission credit auctions to the General Fund.

Commondreams characterized Christie’s actions as a “shredding” of New Jersey’s climate change programs. I like it!

As a lifetime resident of the Garden State, who saw the 2009 gubernatorial election as a choice between the lesser of two evils, I am seriously pumped about what's coming out of Trenton.

This news is a pleasant surprise, along with everything else he's been doing. The road ahead for New Jerseyans will be hard, but at least we're on the right path. 10 years of McGreevey/Corzine liberalism have left us on the brink of Californiaism.

Kudos to Christie!

ChristieTheGreat| 3.25.10 @ 3:53PM

Christie is doing what I can only dream about. He's firing idiot/incompetent bureaucrats (I know, that's redundant), union thugs, and actually reducing government size and spending.

Now if he could only do that to the gargantuan, bloated, worthless Federal government. Christie could fire 90% of the federal employees tomorrow and NO ONE would notice ANY change except that which stays in their pocket.

NIKKI| 4.3.10 @ 6:41AM

HOW CAN U SAY NO ONE WILL SEE ANY CHANGE...MAYBE NOT TO YOU CUS YOU MAY HAVE MONEY BUT WITH PPL LOSING THEIR JOB..IM TALKING PPL LIKE POLICE OFFICERS....WITHOUT ENOUGH OF THEM ON THE STREET...CRIME RATE WILL GO UP..(MONEY) MORE PPL ON UNEMPLYMNT..(MONEY) OUR KIDZ NOT GETTING A GOOD EDUCATION BECAUSE OF OVER CROWDED SCHOOLS...(FUTURE DISASTER) HE LIKE ANOTHER BUSH..GET IN THE OFFICE AND MESS EVERYTHING UP.

BobbyRomano| 3.25.10 @ 3:59PM

He PROMISED to fire 20,000 state employees, but actually he's firing ZERO. He eliminated the spending on the Green Jobs program, but not the electric bill surcharge to fund it...and he's increased food stamps, welfare and Pre-K while cutting out every dollar of state aid to the suburbs and rural areas (but the cities remain whole). And he's balancing his budget with money from the State Cap and Trade program, which he's keeping. Plus, his DEP Commissioner is a Global Warming fanatic. Like former New York Mayor John Lindsay, the myth grows the farther away you get. Here in NJ, I face a $1500 property tax hike because Christie's taking away all my town's state aid, plus he's eliminated my $1000 Homestead Rebate check -- but aid to Newark, Camden, Jersey City, Paterson remains virtually the same.

tonypal| 3.25.10 @ 6:23PM

Wow!!! He's done all that in just 2 months? He must have cloned himself in order to handle such a heavy work load.

Beaglescout| 3.25.10 @ 4:01PM

Can we clone Christie for the other 49 states?

Real American| 3.25.10 @ 4:07PM

California desperately needs a Christie...as does the entire nation!

ChristieTheFraud| 3.25.10 @ 4:14PM

Amen, Bobby! Sooner or later people will pick up on the fact that Christie is a fraud and a phony. His deeds simply don't match his rhetoric!

Margie| 3.25.10 @ 5:31PM

"Celebrate! Celebrate! Dance to the music!"

Another Greenie Zombie plan bites the dust!

Will you look at that? There IS hope for us after all. If there is hope for this state, and I am SO very proud of you, Governor Christie, then there is hope for the rest of the country, possibly even California!

Vote Republican and take back the country form the doom and gloom Leftists!

Chris Christie for President!
p.s. loved the video of Ethan. He's so cute! Thanks for the laughs!

"This Christie anti-regulatory stance is compounded by diversions of $300 million in Clean Energy Funds dedicated to energy efficiency and renewable energy programs."

300M?? What a racket these folks were running...if they'd only chosen healthcare instead of climate, they'd be on their way to untold riches now.

You GOP and Tea Party idiots must feel real patriotic, shilling for the Saudis and Chinese like this.

You know how much the Saudis fleeced out of your oil-addicted pockets in 2008? $233 BILLION in oil profits... I wonder how much went to the Bin Ladin family!

Maybe if we save some of that money, we'll have the money to more Chinese to build the wind turbines we're too stupid to build ourselves!

Or, we could create the jobs of the future here at home...

Oh yeah, but you guys don't want jobs... in fact, you're complaining about 20,000 people not getting fired.

Real bunch of Americans, here.

Jack| 4.7.10 @ 7:15PM

Fredo...so wind turbines even make 1% of our economy? Did I just miss something? Of course we need to encourage jobs at home, but inventing jobs isn't how to do it. For starters, make it more appealing to do business here in the US and less worldwide. What a concept.

But anyways why don't you go create a private sector company to research wind turbines and make them more efficient and go sell it. I'm all for that, and I’d probably buy it if it’s at the right price; but don't look at the government as your own piggy bank to spend on things the private sector should be doing. (Just a note, even if someone does come up with wind turbines that are 1000 times better than what we have now, we'd have to deal with PETA complaining about the dead birds. Just can't win.)

As for Saudis...ok...we have enough oil on our own land to support ourselves for over 200 if not 300 years. Think we can be independent and come up with another energy source in that time? Of course we can. But no, that's not good enough. You want technology that we don't have, now, and will drive a nation into deeper debt, without a care about the consequences. Sorry but tax payers cannot support those programs at this time; as we are in a recession that the government had a major hand in creating.

One last thing that always bugs me, everyone knows not to trust a politician. Even if you like them, at most keep them at arms length. Everyone complains about how inefficient and bloated the government runs their programs. So why do you constantly insist they can do a better job running "EVERYTHING" than anyone else? By what logic do you think the government would handle “EVERYTHING” responsibly? Meaning with no intention of power grabbing? If men were angels there would be no need for government. Since they are not, no one should trust a man that has power over another man.

If there’s one thing that we agree on, it’s that things need to change. But I believe it needs to change first with the government taking responsibility for itself. Meaning taking care of budget, and realize they are way outside the boundaries of the contract they made with people. i.e. The Constitution. Leftists and rightists complain about budget all the time don’t they? Yet they still want to spend even more money. I like what I see happening with Chris Christie, but I’m not fanatical that I’ll turn a blind eye to “real” wrong doings. I’m very watchful because I don’t trust the government with my money or my rights.
