by

The Washington Post reports:

West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin (D) has selected his former general counsel, Carte Goodwin, as a temporary appointee to the Senate, according to a knowledgeable Democratic source.

Goodwin will serve as Senator until a special election can be held, which is now expected to happen this year. Gov. Manchin is likely to seek the seat himself.
