Today President Obama is touting his new Obamacare numbers: 4.2 million people have enrolled.
Yes, 4.2 million out of his original 7 million goal and the deadline is only nineteen days away. But where most Americans would see defeat, the White House claims this is exactly what they expected. Jay Carney said:
And you know, we’re confident in this final month of the open enrollment period that a lot of Americans are going to sign up and that a lot of young Americans are going to sign up. We saw that in earlier numbers…that the growth in enrollments is substantial in the 18-to-34 age category. And we expect that to continue.
It looks like Democrats are banking on procrastinating young people suddenly rushing to Healthcare.gov over the next couple weeks. Republicans don’t buy it:
“It seems the president’s push to enroll young adults is far too little, too late,” said Brendan Buck, a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner. “The administration won’t tell us how many people have actually paid for a plan or how many were previously uninsured. But what we do know is that young adults — those who the White House repeatedly said are critical — are deciding the health care law is a bad deal.”
In fact, Senator Marco Rubio thinks failure was Obama’s goal all along. Rubio recently said the administration wanted Obamacare to collapse so that people would come begging Uncle Sam for a single payer system:
“I believe single payer is always the goal that they wanted. In fact, I think Obamacare was designed to eventually lead us to that point. What I think you’re going to see now is as Obamacare begins to fail, instead of recognizing it as a failure, we need to back and embrace free market principles. I think you’re going to find the left increasingly saying that Obamacare’s failure proves we need a single payer system, so I’m not surprised by it at all,” he added.
That, of course, is the liberal way. They create crises and send in Big Brother to fix the problem to become the plebeians’ super-hero savior. Marco Rubio called a single-payer system “Obamacare on steroids.”
Rubio also jabbed at the government’s inability to even deliver the mail on time, and asked Americans if they trust the government to care for their well-being as well.
I don’t know what’s more disturbing: believing that our president has a deliberate plan to take over the health care industry, or believing that he had no idea Obamacare would be such a flop.
Regardless, some facts remain. Only 943,000 Americans enrolled during February, down from January’s 1.1 million. We still don’t know how many of these people were actually uninsured before, nor do we know how many have paid their first premiums. We know that there are not enough young people signed up, or else Obama wouldn’t have bothered with his Funnyordie.com comedy stunt. We know that people lost their plans and their doctors and that Democrats lied. We know that this isn’t working and something’s gotta give.
