A little while ago I said GOP members were not acquitting themselves well. But I should acknowledge that I have been watching only at intervals. I missed Lamar Alexander’s opening statement; now having read a transcript, it seemed pretty strong. I also jsut watched a replay of Paul Ryan. He was excellent. And I already had seen, live, part of Mike Enzi, and he was good. I also missed Kyl, and heard he was good. So I therefore revise and extend to say that at times, the Republicans have done well. At other times, though, as I wrote at first, they have seemed too obsequious and Obama has been allowed to sound far too authoritative, without being challenged on his mistatements and his tendentious descriptions of the two sides’ stances….. But it hasn’t been all bad. Hats off to those who are holding their own.
