In the wake of the House of Representative’s rejection of extending Trade Promotion Authority to President Obama, Oregon Democratic Congressman Pete DeFazio succinctly summed up President Obama’s legacy:
The President tried to both guilt people and impugn their integrity. I was insulted.
Of course, this is nothing new. It is Obama’s stock and trade. He’s been doing with Republicans since his first run for the White House. Now that a significant number of Democrats have crossed swords with Obama for the first time they now find themselves on the receiving end of his condescension and derision.
A majority of Republicans might be aligned with Obama on both TPA and TPP, but this will do them no favors with The Anointed One. If Obama doesn’t get his way or he does eventually get his way and no longer needs Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, he will resume his guilt trips with Republicans and impugn their integrity without a moment’s pause.
