Lacking a Sense of Irony, Planned Parenthood Joins #BlackLivesMatter
by

In 2012, according to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Office of Vital Statistics more abortions were performed on black women in New York City than black children were born. As of 2008, according to Planned Parenthood’s statistical arm, The Guttmacher Institute, only 36% of all abortions were performed on non-Hispanic white women. According to the pro-life group Live Action, in 2010, Planned Parenthood began the process of accepting donations from undercover investigators posting as willing funders, who requested the money specifically be directed to programs that followed Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger’s original intent in providing family planning services: eliminating minority populations.

In 2014, without a hint of irony or self-awareness, Planned Parenthood joined a nationwide protest yesterday called #BlackLivesMatter – at least sort of, through social media, without having to actually do anything to support the cause.

Perhaps even more ironically, Planned Parenthood’s minority outreach program, which Tweeted this, was started as a covert way of infiltrating the black community (quote via the Daily Caller):

We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities.  The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members. – Margaret Sanger’s December 19, 1939 letter to Dr. Clarence Gamble, 255 Adams Street, Milton, Massachusetts

She was a real charmer, wasn’t she? I bet she was super fun at cocktail parties.

Anyway, obviously Planned Parenthood is joining in the protests as a way of expressing solidarity with other organizations supporting their policy agenda. While many might think Planned Parenthood is a magical ladyparts palace that will cure all of society’s ills, in practice, the clinics are really there so that women in urban and suburban centers don’t have to go to the same place for their birth control prescriptions that hobos go to for their scabies infections. Planned Parenthood’s DC administration is mostly centered around warping errant Democratic Party talking points into “women’s issues” so that they can continue to pretend their more political focus is still serving the needs of an underpriveleged community.
