Harry Reid Broke His Face (And Some Ribs)

Harry Reid is no longer allowed to exercise by himself at home.

Apparently, after sustaining a serious injury in his home gym (for a second time), the Senate Democratic leader was rushed to a hospital near his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was quickly diagnosed with several facial fractures and a few broken ribs.

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid is in a Las Vegas hospital following injuries sustained while exercising at home.

A statement issued Friday by Reid’s office said doctors expect a “full recovery.”

“A piece of equipment Senator Reid was using to exercise broke, causing him to fall and break a number of ribs and bones in his face,” according to the statement. “Senator Reid will return to Washington this weekend and be in the office Tuesday as the Senate prepares to reconvene.”

Harry Reid is well known for his unique ability to fun afoul of even the most basic exercise paraphernalia. In this case, Reid was doing some light stretching with an exercise band attached to a larger piece of equipment. The band snapped, hitting him in the face, breaking several bones in his mug. He then lost his balance and fell over onto other gym equipment, breaking several of his ribs in the process. Fortunately, his security detail was on premises, found him and got him medical attention. Harry will not look pretty when he’s released from the hospital this afternoon, but at least it wasn’t anything more serious. No word if they carried him to a waiting emergency vehicle, Bodyguard style.

According to USA Today, this is the latest in a series of mishaps for the Senator, who suffered bruises on his face and hip in a 2012 car accident, and dislocated his shoulder while jogging in 2011. He was also admitted to a DC-area hospital in 2013 after he suffered exhaustion.
