The now-departed (from the Senate) Russ Feingold’s legacy will be defined in large part by teaming with John McCain in an effort to shred the First Amendment. Jesse Walker and Bill Kauffman remind us of the Wisconsin Democrat’s good points. He was a mix of good, bad, and ugly in the William Proxmire-Eugene McCarthy tradition. Don’t get me wrong: I’d much rather have Ron Johnson than Russ Feingold. But if I could trade Chuck Schumer for Feingold, I’d take it.
