Disney Still Hasn’t Learned Its Lesson. Gina Carano Is Proof.

In recent years, Disney has run off the woke cliff. Now, it is facing legal consequences.

Just weeks ago, former Disney actress Gina Carano announced she is suing Lucasfilm and its parent company, Disney, for firing her in 2021.

Carano opened up to the Babylon Bee in an interview released this week about the lawsuit and Elon Musk’s financial support of the suite. “I kept on thinking ‘God, do you think I’m going to get justice,” she explained to Babylon Bee editor-in-chief Kyle Mann. “A week from that prayer, I got an email from X lawyers.”

Carano said that she is grateful to have Musk’s support when facing up against a corporation like Disney: “He’s fighting Disney for me … so he is just doing a lot.”

Fired for ‘Hate’ Speech

Carano was fired in early 2021 from her role in the hit series The Mandalorian after stirring up controversy on social media. The actress had reposted a picture to her Instagram story that compared the division between the Jews and their neighbors in World War II to the division in America today.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” Lucasfilm said in a statement at the time. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Before her firing, Lucasfilm had planned for Carano to star in her own solo Star Wars show due to the great popularity of her character in season one of The Mandalorian. Shortly after, Carano was also dropped by United Talent Agency (UTA). It was leaked that Disney had been looking for an excuse to fire her for months after she pushed back against COVID-19 restrictions and voter fraud on social media.

Now, Carano is seeking to force Lucasfilm to recast her in The Mandalorian and to pay her at least $75,000 in punitive damages.

“It’s like I’ve been in this desert where I belong nowhere. I’m alone,” Carano told CinemaBlend in a recent interview.

She’s not alone anymore, though.

“As a sign of X Corp’s commitment to free speech, we’re proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano’s lawsuit, empowering her to seek vindication of her free speech rights on X and the ability to work without bullying, harassment, or discrimination,” said Joe Benarroch, X’s head of business operations.

Disney Gone Woke

This is just another chapter in Disney’s woke saga.

From partnering with transgender influencers to removing former President Donald Trump from the Hall of Presidents ride at Disneyland due to “the problematic nature of his presidency,” Disney has publicly embraced leftist ideology.

The company, however, isn’t thriving. A recent report found that Disney+, Disney’s streaming service, lost 1.3 million subscribers during just the final quarter of 2023. In the previous quarter, the company lost 11.7 million subscribers.

While projections state Disney will add between 5.5 and 6 million subscribers in 2024, that seems unlikely if the company continues to be mired in controversy. As commentator Patrick Bet-David pointed out in a post on X:

Disney fired Gina Carano the week of February 8th, 2021. Market cap of Disney that day was $341 billion. Disney’s market cap today: $203 billion. A loss of $138 billion. This is a byproduct of Disney forgetting who their #1 customers are: PARENTS.

Either Disney will learn its lesson, or it will continue its steady decline.
