Biden’s Bullies
by

No one should be surprised.

In the wake of Democrat West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin’s thumbs down on the Biden “Build Back Better” horror, the Biden White House was unleashed on the senator. The former governor of the state and now its long-serving senator had the audacity to recognize the disaster this bill was and exactly how it would enact an inflation tax on his decidedly not-wealthy constituents.

Fox News headlined this of Manchin’s reaction: “Manchin blasts WH staff for leaking ‘absolutely inexcusable’ things about him after rejecting BBB.”

The story said, in part, this:

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., blasted the White House ‘staff” for leaking ‘absolutely inexcusable’ things about him after rejecting President Biden’s Build Back Better Act during an interview on ‘Fox News Sunday.’

Manchin said during a Monday interview with MetroNews Talkline that the White House ‘retaliated’ against him after he told ‘Fox News Sunday’ that he could not support Biden’s signature COVID–19 relief legislation.

‘Basically, they retaliated,’ the West Virginia Democrat said. ‘I figured they would come back strong.’

‘This is staff. And they drove some things and they put some things out that were absolutely inexcusable,’ Manchin said. ‘And they know what it is. And that’s it.’

Meanwhile, another Democrat senator who has prominently featured as a problem for the Biden agenda is Arizona’s Sen. Kyrsten Sinema. And the reaction to Sinema was an “in-your-face” response, as headlined by Politico: “‘We’re going to make her life unpleasant’: Activists aren’t finished with Kyrsten Sinema.”

That story said:

Last week, the in-your-face tactic came to head when protesters followed Sinema into a bathroom and filmed her. On Monday, they followed her to Boston where she was to compete in the marathon before a foot injury kept her from participating.”

…Grassroots activists and union groups are preparing to launch a flurry of protests later on Wednesday against Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz) — who they worry could single-handedly sink President Biden’s agenda.’

‘We’re committed to birddogging Kyrsten Sinema with her constituents until the very end,’ Our Revolution Executive Director Joseph Geevarghese said in an interview. ‘What we want to show is that her constituents are very serious about wanting policies and activism and we’re going to make her life unpleasant or uncomfortable until that happens.’”

Sinema replied in a statement after she was followed and filmed in a bathroom at Arizona State University where she has been a longtime teacher, saying this:

‘In the 19 years I have been teaching at ASU, I have been committed to creating a safe and intellectually challenging environment for my students. Yesterday, that environment was breached,’ Sinema said in the statement. ‘My students were unfairly and unlawfully victimized. This is wholly inappropriate.’

Make no mistake. This is the way Biden’s Bullies conduct themselves. The president has surrounded himself with far-left “progressives” who have no hesitation in using the tactics of the bully to get their way — or punish opponents, even in their own party — when things don’t go their way.

Over there at the Wall Street Journal, the always astute Kimberly Strassel has taken note of Sinema’s treatment, writing:

The Arizona Working Families Party and the Sunrise Movement arrayed Monday at the Boston Marathon with plans to accost the senator as she ran (an injury prevented her from taking part). An activist confronted her on a flight to Washington. Progressives stalked her after she landed, hounding her for responses. This was after activists at Arizona State University chased her into a bathroom and videotaped her there. Liberal groups are running ads in Arizona trashing her. Democratic operatives last month launched the Primary Sinema PAC (using ‘primary’ as a verb).

The press—which spent several years worrying that MAGA hats were triggering—has licensed and encouraged the mob. ‘What’s Wrong With Kyrsten Sinema?’ demanded the New York Times. The Nation called her the “Senate’s newest super villain,” while the New Republic branded her a ‘traitor.’ Jezebel, the ‘feminist’ blog, Tweeted: ‘Absolutely Bully Kyrsten Sinema Outside Of Her Bathroom Stall.’

As noted in this space last week, the Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises long ago understood exactly what the Left was always about. They are, he wrote:

utterly … intolerant zealots … they entirely disregard the possibility that there could arise disagreement with regard to the question of what is right and expedient and what is not. They advocate enlightened despotism … convinced that the enlightened despot will in every detail comply with their own opinion.… They are utterly intolerant and are not prepared to allow any discussion. Every advocate (of the Left) … is a potential dictator. What he plans is to deprive all other men of all their rights, and to establish his own and his friends’ unrestricted omnipotence. He refuses to convince his fellow citizens. He prefers to ‘liquidate’ them. He scorns the ‘bourgeois’ society that worships law and legal procedure. He himself worships violence and bloodshed.

A more perfect characterization of Manchin and Sinema’s critics in the Biden White House and elsewhere could not be had.

Note well that Manchin fingered the White House bullying not on Biden personally — but on his staff. Which says everything you need to know about how Joe Biden is running his presidency. He isn’t.

Clearly, the president is a mere figurehead in his own White House. The reins are being held by a collection of staffers who have no hesitation in bullying anyone who opposes the Biden agenda — if it actually is Biden’s agenda and not the staff’s agenda.

Which is all the more reason that Biden himself should take control of both his White House staff and his party’s leftist activists, effectively Biden’s Bullies both.

Will this happen?

Of course not. Because as many Americans said in a recent CBS poll, 51 percent believe they did not think the president was competent in doing his job. The questions of his cognitive state are everywhere. Recently, Fox’s Tucker Carlson said this:

I know a bunch of members of his family and a couple of them very well. And I knew for a fact that certain members of the family were very concerned about his cognitive ability. They didn’t expect him to get the nomination. Nobody did. And he got it and they were freaked out about it. That’s I’m not speculating. I know that for a fact. So I knew that the family believed he was in cognitive decline.

That being the case, it is crystal clear that Joe Biden is in no position to restrain the bullies acting in his name.

As Manchin and Sinema are finding out firsthand.

Not good. Not good at all.
