After this week’s primary election in Indiana, we know Richard Lugar will not be returning to the U.S. Senate for a 37th term. He likely won’t be returning to River City either — former Senators and members of Congress rarely do.
Utah’s Orrin Hatch, of the same vintage, also faces a primary fight, though pollsters show him stronger than Lugar was before his (Lugar’s) loss.
My sources in the Senate cloak room tell me that Lugar and Hatch, if they are both civilians next year, plan to write a book together. They haven’t been able to agree on a title yet. But the two top candidates so far are, “We Grew In Office,” and “We Still Don’t Get It.”
