Romney Says He Won’t Be a McCain VP

SANFORD, FL — Mitt Romney spoke at an aircraft maintenence facility
to a large crowd of several hundred here today, which was far larger than the low key event that I attended for Rudy Giuliani in the same area just a few hours earlier.

Romney stressed his economic background, which he said is “in my DNA,” and discussed being neck-and-neck with John McCain in the state. He hit McCain for his support for cap and trade, and blasted McCain for saying he didn’t understand the economy well, and would have to pick a vice president who did.

“I do understand the economy,” Romney said. But then added, “I’m not going to be a vice president for John McCain.”

I’m sure the feeling is mutual.

Meanwhile, I tried to attend a McCain event at the nearby Orlando Airport, but arrived just as it was finishing. Judging by the size of the facility, the cars in the parking lot, and the number of people leaving, I’d guess it was at least comparable to the turnout for Romney.

More to come, but am off to another McCain rally now, and I don’t want to miss it this time.
