This sounds a bit muddled and likely to bring on a round of press criticism as Huckabee shows his ad but won’t air it and displays his oppo research. Taking a step back and putting aside Huckabee’s viability for a moment, there may be a real concern that if Huckabee can put together a room of oppo research on Romney then Hillary/Obama/Edwards can put together a whole barn full. Yes, every candidate has faults but does a Romney nominee turn the race from a battle about HillaryCare( not a good contrast point there, by the way) or Hillary “calculation” or Obama “inexperience” to Romney “flip-floppery” and “lack of conviction.” Huckabee may not have the right convictions for many GOP voters, but at least he has them. Maybe that is what Huckabee’s strange presser was all about.UPDATE: Here is the ad. UPDATE 2: Now Romney folks need to learn that less is more. Rather than let the Huckabee presser take its course they send out a “Romney says he’s running a positive campaign” email. Well if “positive” is like “saw” and you missed the negative ads against Huckabee in Iowa, the attack piece against McCain in NH and all the mailers and zillion email blasts against both, you’d buy that.
