With nearly three quarters of the vote in, Mitt Romney has been
declared the winner of the Michigan Primary with 41% of the vote.
Rick Santorum came in a close second with 37%.
I can’t help but think that if not for Santorum’s lackluster
debate performance in Arizona last week that he might have
prevailed tonight.
As Simon & Garfunkel sang, “Michigan
seems like a dream to me now.” Well, Santorum need not spend four
days hitch hiking to Saginaw. He has a week to look for America or
at the very least ten of its states.

There goes the nomination...to Mitt...I congratulate his supporters for doing this to us all, including yourselves.
And I don't expect you to understand what I mean...but on the first Wednesday in November...please do me a favor...
Wake up...take a shower...go to work...shake of the melancholy of knowing we have a tyrant for at LEAST 4 more years (Obama)...and actually start watching the battles between the conservatives and the Moderates closely during 2013 and 2014...THEN, join us for the run to take back the Presidency in 2016...when you know what we mean by not wanting any more losers like Dole, McCain,...and you fill in the blank name.
Bob Grant| 2.28.12 @ 10:53PM
What will be left to save by 2013? ...If Obama wins, more than likely he takes the House and Senate with him.
Our country simply cannot withstand an emboldened obama second term.
If obama wins another term, it will be considered a Black Swan Event to our country.
If Romney wins the nomination, you have no choice but to suck it up and enthusiastically support him or else YOU will be complicit in our country's demise as well.
Enough with the games! This ain't playtime.
WL| 2.28.12 @ 11:00PM
I didn't say I wouldn't vote for Romney there...BOB.
I said he would lose. And he will. He energizes NO ONE. He excites NO ONE.
And you are right...we may not have another election if Obama gets his way...THATS WHY we shouldn't have nominated another squish that will cower down and refuse to play hardball with the democrats...
Have you people ever...ever...EVER...stopped to ask yourselves why moderates like Mitt, McCain, Dole, Alan Simpon, Boehner, Brooks, Frum etc etc...always fire all guns on conservatives....but never really hit the Democrats with anything remotely related to GUTS?
And more importantly...ask yourselves why you support them? NO, you don't. That's why we pick losers and the Dems pick winners.
Bob Grant| 2.28.12 @ 11:14PM
FYI, I plan to vote for Santorum in the Texas Primary.
If Romney wins, I suck it up and ACT like he's the second coming of Ronald Reagan, bumper stickers, posters, t-shirts, and picket signs. I will gladly work the phone banks in my area or volunteer to work a polling station to ensure that, at least, votes wont be stolen from my area.
Your comments will only create a self-fulfilling prophesy that might make you feel good about being right but will not help the conditions in this country.
Drek| 2.28.12 @ 11:27PM
Bob, it's most unlikely that obama can win back the House, and again, the odds are strong that the Senate could go to us, even with the resignation of Snowe, a resignation ever so timely for the Democrats.
BUT EVEN if we retain the House, ------ what good will that be to us? If obama prevails, he'll claim a mandate, the media will second that claim and amplify it, and the GOP in the House will succumb to that pressure.
I am not convinced that obama will prevail in the Fall, because there are a slew of statistics that tell against his stewardship of the nation's affairs.
The economy is not getting any better, and though government statistics are blatantly being skewed in his favour, there isn't any groundswell out there that things are getting better.
Protracted unemployment hasn't been this bad since the Great Depression.
For those under 25, unemployment is endemic, and for black youth, under 25, roughly 50% are unemployed.
These are STAGGERING numbers.
So he can warble out some note from back in the day, and get those already besotted even more so, ------ but many of the young have already seen through his threadbare policies, and everybody out there knows somebody unemployed or underemployed.
It's bad out there.
And likely to get much worse.
That being the case, --- there's no way that Republicans should be fearful of a match-up against him.
Bob Grant| 2.28.12 @ 11:38PM
Obama's only argument will be that a sea change will be more of a disaster than the one he's created and managed.
If obama were your typical democratic president and not a 'historic' one, his approvals would be in the low 30's, upper 20's and the only question would be how much of a landslide defeat he will have to endure.
Having said that, he is ripe for a beat down, if, and only if, republicans don't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
The only way that happens is if we allow support and enthusiasm be tamped down the by the incessant negative comments I see on this site.
Hence, my original response to WL.
WL| 2.28.12 @ 11:49PM
BOB!!!! Apparently, you are just an honest guy who doesn't really care who wins the nomination (in an overall sense)...as long as we get Obama un-elected. I also share those sympathies, and will vote that way as well...including the "bumper stickers." I won't lie, I will be happy if any of them win as well. While, I highly doubt that my comments on a conservative website will sour our chances against Obama, I will concede that I will pretty much tattoo any of their logos (Republicans, that is) on my left cheek and wear pants with holes in them for everyone too see...but the sad fact is...I am afraid we will all see what sending McClellan to cross the Potomac and take Richmond will get us ... soon enough.
I'll leave it there, and leave you alone about it.
Floyd Looney | 2.28.12 @ 11:33PM
I doubt they'll be another election after 2012, at least a real one.
Matthew Quigley| 2.28.12 @ 11:00PM
Thanks, you jerks! You just sentenced us to more Obama! We'll be lucky if this country isn't a prison camp before February of 2013!
Drek| 2.28.12 @ 11:09PM
As if Santorum would have won...........
Cut us a break!
Our enemy is obama, and all things obama, not JFK's flawed theology of 1960!
Drek| 2.28.12 @ 11:29PM
And rest assured, while obama built a $750,000 soccer field for the followers of mohammad, ------------ nobody will be building any ball fields for us..........
WL| 2.28.12 @ 11:52PM
Drek!! Come on Ma-an!!
You gotta know that ol' Newt won't have much of a chance either now that Rick lost....
If we wanted Newt to come back...we sure needed Ricky to steal Michigan...without Rick taking Romney out in Michigan...Mitt won it all my man!!!
WL| 2.28.12 @ 11:54PM
Ol Rick has been real tough on the eyes lately...but so goes Rick (at least in Michigan)...
So goes ANYBODY, except Romney!!!
You haven't been reading A. Coulter lately have you???
HA!
Nick| 2.28.12 @ 11:28PM
Imagine having to spend a month in Michigan.
Floyd Looney | 2.28.12 @ 11:31PM
It is looking more and more like an easy re-election for Obama. Romney is going to get creamed if he is the nominee.
spike59| 2.29.12 @ 6:28AM
perhaps...but he stands a far better chance than EVERY OTHER candidate in the field
Bill| 2.28.12 @ 11:41PM
Santorum made a fatal mistake endorsing Specter and Specter was the 60th "deciding" vote passing Obamacare, and which Romney pointed out in the last debate, and that coat Santorum: AZ & MI.
Eric W| 2.28.12 @ 11:53PM
Washington state is Saturday. Santorum will win there probably. as for Michigan,Santorum will get a lot of delegates from there.
Newt needs to step aside.
WL| 2.28.12 @ 11:57PM
I don't know there E.W...
Santorum really needed to win Michigan after pulling that stunt with the Democrat voters in the last few days of this primary...
Maybe he needs to drop out and endorse Newt?
Do we have a deal?
Bob Grant| 2.29.12 @ 12:01AM
Military guy? I sure wouldn't want you covering my back.
WL| 2.29.12 @ 12:07AM
My politics have nothing to do with military service. As a matter of fact, I am a military guy and was in a real war in the infantry, since you want to use it as some sort of quip line. Of course, the McClellan comment was more from history that military interest..but nonetheless...you can take that "I wouldn't...covering my back." crap and blow it out of your ass.
if you knew anything about that sort of thing, you wouldn't toss that crap around, IDIOT
Bob Grant| 2.29.12 @ 12:11AM
Your comments are sufficient justification.
WL| 2.29.12 @ 12:28AM
That's quite an ignorant response and sufficient justification to see you for what you are. I expected something better than that, but whatever..., you obviously have a thin skin about strong opinions that don't line up with your own.
I made my comment and you are the one who had to ride in on your white horse since you are evidently the only one who wants to beat Obama, then like a child, you want to try and find something to make some stupid remark about. In this case, it was a comment that lead you to believe I have a military history. It's a very good one too...BOB.
So shove it, I'll make a deal with you...you don't comment on my comments, and I'll stay away from yours. I'll even give you the last word on this one, without response, since I am sure it will give you some closure...but after that stay the hell away from mine.
somnolence| 2.29.12 @ 12:01AM
If WE allow this nation to become "a prison camp by 2013" it will be our fault as citizens unwilling to take up arms to the death. In other words, don't blame the political process if it happens. That said, it is a certainty that millions of our fellow countrymen would sadly be as passive and limp as could be, and some would probably join the tyrants.
WL| 2.29.12 @ 12:02AM
Where you at CLINT????
I'm sitting here having a ball and reveling in going back and forth when I have been on the losing side of things ever since I sat and watch Obama win in 2008....and where is your tired butt...

Prove to me that Santorum wouldn't get "creamed" by Obama if HE was the nominee. Or for that matter, Gingrich. I didn't think you could prove it, Floyd.
Proud Mormon| 2.29.12 @ 1:15AM
A great day in American History. Mitt will be our first Mormon president and the Tea Party and other conservative GOP elements have been routed purifying the great Republican Party. Mitt's father would be proud.

Casey Abell| 2.29.12 @ 5:08AM
Democrats almost gave Santorum the win in Michigan. Romney carried GOPers 48-37 according to the exits, but Dems gave Santorum a whopping 53-18 edge. Operation Chaos almost worked. I expect more of the same in Ohio, with maybe the same kind of Santorum robocalls.
In Arizona, no Operation Chaos and no robocalls produced a rout for Romney.
Tom| 2.29.12 @ 6:02AM
He may have barely got more votes, but I would hardly call Romney's performance in Michigan a "victory"; getting about 40 percent of the votes in your home state is not something to be proud of.
W| 2.29.12 @ 7:39AM
The Rep nominee is not going to win Michigan in November with Detroit voting 99% for Obama. Arizona is more important because it is a swing state the Repub can and must win.
