The Spectacle Blog

Sea Change?

By some accounts on Twitter, the protests today in Tehran today drew over a million people, and published reports said they crowd stretched 5 miles long. This photo, too big to publish on the blog, gives a sense of the magnitude of the turnout. And as you can see by the photo below, things are getting bloody. Too early to know whether we are seeing the beginning of another revolution that will seriously threaten the wicked regime in power, or a shorter-lived outburst of opposition that will soon be put down.

I don't think this Obama bunch would let us help the poor Iranians anyhow, any way.
Pretty grim there for many years.

Angel| 6.15.09 @ 6:27PM

I'm so sorry. God bless this poor man.

Obama is in his favorite position "neutral" he doesn't have the fortitude to publicly say what he should on the matter lest he "offend" someone! Namely, the thug Ahmadinejad!
He will never stand up and confront the wongdoer and call them out!
Kim Jung Il has figured that out already , and will do whatever he damn well pleases! You say you will board North Korean ships, but only if they allow it! A 5 year old is a better diplomat!
the MOST inexperienced President in our history at our MOST critical time in our history! GREAT!

Is this an example of the "robust debate" Obama was crowing about?

I thought The One's Cairo Speech was supposed to bring Harmonic Convergence to the world.

No? How dare they! This is gonna make the teleprompter very angry.

Since you somehow tie Obama to this unfortunate situation, you should also remind your readers that Iran did have a "moderate" president until 2005. Amadinijad was elected thanks to the invaision of Iraq and Bush calling Iran part of the axis of evil. This was an Iranian hardliner's dream come true.

Sean| 6.16.09 @ 9:37AM

Why would Obama want to get involved? That will only draw attention away Amadinijad. Let the Iranian people sort this out themselves.

Angel| 6.16.09 @ 1:34PM

Sure, Don't Seymour Kleerly, nice try blaming President Bush; especially considering the Iranian revolution that brought the Ayatollahs to power occurred on YOUR Jimmuh Carter's watch.

Also, the Islamic revolt in Tehran, that was a result of Jimmuh's misdeeds, is a prime example of what the Liberal policies of Democrats Jimmuh Carter and Obama bring to the region.

Bush Derangement Syndrome.

No high hopes for change in Iran. Both sides in this "election" still agree on one thing: "DEATH TO AMERICA!" Obama is correct in not taking sides---it wouldn't accomplish a thing.

Sassy| 6.17.09 @ 6:05PM

Spoken like a true chicken sh!t liberal, Duncan. Thanks for nothin'!

Tabitha| 6.17.09 @ 6:06PM

You lie, Duncan, the Iranian people love America. We should help them!
