That’s what Camille Paglia—one of President Obama’s biggest supporters—calls the new administration’s actions towards Rush Limbaugh, of whom she is also a fan.

Paglia points out what few people have, that Limbaugh, in addition to being a talk-radio host with talent on loan from God and 20 million listeners per week, is a private citizen, whom Obama and staff are targeting because they lack the skills to do the real work of the “crushing demands of the Presidency.”

Has the administration gone mad? This entire fracas was set off by the president himself, who lowered his office by targeting a private citizen by name. Limbaugh had every right to counterattack, which he did with gusto. Why have so many Democrats abandoned the hallowed principle of free speech? Limbaugh, like our own liberal culture hero Lenny Bruce, is a professional commentator who can be as rude and crude as he wants.

And this gem:

Rush Limbaugh is an embodiment of the American dream: He slowly rose from obscurity to fame on the basis of his own talent and grit. Every penny Rush has earned was the result of his rapport with a vast audience who felt shut out and silenced by the liberal monopoly of major media. As a Democrat and Obama supporter, I certainly do not agree with everything Rush says or does […] Nevertheless, I respect Rush for his independence of thought and his always provocative news analysis. He doesn’t run with the elite — he goes his own way.

If only her Democratic colleagues had such insight.

I read Paglia's column, the girl's got clarity! Courage, too. I wish some Republicans had her insight (and courage).

Quoting Camille Paglia in support of anything is a terrible, terrible idea. And where was the part where liberals "abandoned the hallowed principle of free speech"? The Prez said that Limbaugh represented the Republican party. Then Limbaugh responded. Then a few Republicans tried to say that he didn't represent the party. Then Rush responded. Then the Republicans had to apologize him. Then we liberals pointed that this kind of proved our point.

Sounds like a whole lot of free speech going on to me. It's not like anyone is saying that Rush's microphone should be taken away from him or anything crazy like that.

As for Obama "lowering" himself by commenting on Rush, I don't know about that one, but if that's true, that should make you happy, no?

Cheer up, Neocons! Sometimes I almost feel sorry for you.

The Republicans had to apologize him? Edit your idiotic posts before you feel sorry for Conservatives, tool. Oh, by the way, Steele apologized TO Rush, and Rush wiped the floor up with Obummer.

at least Camille can write, she probably went to a private school.
fyi I dont care about conservative econmics anymore, just having enough food and clothes to wear.
It's always comforting to see people wearing clothes because with the people I grew up with such wasn't always the case-- and not for lack of funds.

With utmost respect for Ms. Pagila, who joins me in blasting the Sarah Palin slanderers, I am getting exhausted by the number of targets for blame. Doesn't President Obama have a brain behind that teleprompter?

Let's do a quick count: (1) Bush 43, (2) Congress, (3) the EU of late with respect to the global recession, and (4) the former Clintonistas and ongoing pranksters.

Next....
