Campaign Crawlers

The Scott Heard ‘Round the World

Tuesday’s Massachusetts election could signal a Revolution.

BOSTON, Mass. — Valerie LaCasse stood in sub-freezing cold Saturday evening in Middleboro awaiting the arrival of Senate candidate Scott Brown. She was one of hundreds who turned out in Everett Square for a chance to meet the Republican whose surging campaign has sent political shockwaves through Massachusetts.

LaCasse is a lifelong Democrat who voted for both Barack Obama and Ted Kennedy. It was Kennedy’s death in August that created the vacancy to be filled by Tuesday’s special election, but LaCasse won’t be voting for Democrat Martha Coakley.

“I never warmed up to her,” the Acushnet resident said of Coakley. “When she took that break at Christmas, that really irritated me — that she wasn’t out campaigning door-to-door like [Brown] was.”

LaCasse is certainly not the only Democrat swept up in the phenomenal groundswell of support for the GOP state senator who was barely known outside his district six weeks ago. One elected Democratic official — although required by the state party to support Coakley publicly — privately admitted over the weekend that he will vote Tuesday for Brown, as will his wife.

Coakley was “mailing it in” on the senatorial campaign trail, the official said, relating how in his own election, he had gone door-to-door “seven days a week” soliciting votes. After winning the Dec. 8 Democratic primary, however, Coakley seemed to shift into neutral, expecting to coast easily to victory in the general election. She even took a six-day vacation from campaigning in December.

As polls increasingly point toward a victory for Brown, criticisms of the blunder-prone Coakley campaign are being heard from many quarters. Friday in Boston’s North End, while Rudy Giuliani was in town to campaign for Brown, longtime Boston newspaper columnist Mike Barnicle stood on Hanover Street and shook his head when asked about Coakley.

“I’ve never seen a worse campaign for a Democrat,” said Barnicle, a liberal who is a regular commentator on MSNBC. “It’s an election, not a coronation.”

Coakley’s aloof personality, disastrous gaffes and strategic miscalculations may become a convenient explanation if, as many Massachusetts political observers now expect, the Democrat loses Tuesday. If her defeat can be explained in strictly tactical terms — a bad campaign by a clueless candidate — then liberals can argue that the election is neither a negative referendum on the first year of the Obama administration nor a harbinger of dismal Democratic prospects in the November mid-terms.

Such a narrow interpretation of this Massachusetts election — “The Scott Heard ‘Round the World,” as Brown’s supporters like to say — ignores the extent to which the Republican has emphasized conservative stances on key issues, including health care, economic policy and national security.

A lieutenant colonel in the National Guard, Brown has relentlessly criticized the Obama administration’s decision to grant civilian trials to accused foreign terrorists like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. Giuliani pounded that theme Friday while campaigning with Brown here, slamming Coakley for her assertion during a debate last week that terrorists were “gone” from Afghanistan. “What the heck does she think we’re doing there?” the former New York mayor said.

Brown has also been a consistent critic of the economic stimulus bill that President Obama pushed through Congress last year. “The fact is the stimulus has not worked. Not one new job has been created in Massachusetts, or anywhere in the nation,” Brown said in one of his earliest campaign statements. “Our country can’t afford any more stimulus spending that adds to our deficit without adding to employment.”

More than anything else, however, it is Brown’s opposition to the Democrats’ pending health-care legislation that turned the Massachusetts election into a crusade for conservatives nationwide. The Republican has vowed to be the “41st vote” against the bill, preventing Senate Democrats from maintaining the filibuster-proof supermajority needed for final approval.

While it has been speculated that Democrats may find some procedural means of bypassing that obstacle, to do so would be to ignore the clear message of this campaign. If opposition to the administration’s health-care policy can spur the election of a Republican in one of the nation’s most liberal states, Brown’s election would be an emphatic “no” in what is tantamount to a referendum on Obama’s first year in office.

The energy and enthusiasm of Brown’s campaign here in recent days is unprecedented for any Republican candidate in Massachusetts, longtime residents say. Among the crowd who waited in the cold Saturday evening in Middleboro for the arrival of Brown’s “Bold New Leadership” tour bus was Dick Glidden, a Navy veteran of World War II.

“In all my years,” said the 85-year-old local, “I’ve never seen anything like this.”

God, help Scott pull this through and put Coakley in her place and send a message to DC that we are sick of this BS

Mark| 1.18.10 @ 12:19PM

Stephanie, from the look of it Brown has a 5 to 10 point lead in almost all polls going into tomorrow. While not a guarantee of victory it is certainly encouraging and hopefully will put the current liberal machine on notice that Americans as a whole are fed up with this style of unilateral rule.

Jack P| 1.18.10 @ 1:20PM

Indeed. The 40 conservative voices in the US Senate have been fighting a heroic last stand, a Battle of the Bulge, and have refused to give in. To every call for their surrender by those out-of-touch elitists determined to break them, they have said "nuts."

Mr. Brown can be Massachusetts' life-line to the besieged. Massachusetts birthed this great nation, has fought to keep it alive and united through every conflict in our history, large and small. My hopes are that the great people of your state, of every political stripe, will do so tomorrow by sending Mr. Brown to Washington.

TW| 1.18.10 @ 3:40PM

Amen. If the voters in Massachusetts send a message by voting for Brown, to all the arrogant, corrupt, lazy career politicians, of both parties, that the voters will throw all of them out unless they stop mortgaging our grandchildrens' futures, cut government back to its critical essentials, and begin to represent us honestly and openly, without the backroom bribes, those voters will deserve the thanks of a grateful nation.

Shakepearean irony!
The only chance for the PEOPLE to pushback against the Obama Regime (prior to Nov.) comes within the People's Republic of Massachusetts. Delicious.

I faced the satan head of RACISM then and that was in the 80s and it CONTINUES:-(

Ted Kennedy should never had a seat in the senate but rather, should have had a seat in a jail cell for life, for what he did to his victim, Mary Jo Kopecky, don't forget it, Ted Kennedy got away with murder that drunken night and his Kennedy name bought his senate seat and his jail free card. Mary Jo Kopecky lived underwater in that car tomb for hours with an air bubble, reports say: She could have been saved but Ted Kennedy instead left her for dead. He took advantage of the young woman then left her for dead. This was not a good man. It's not the Kennedy seat it's the people's seat!

Satan| 1.18.10 @ 2:33PM

Dr. Reid,

Although you are correct about MA, I am afraid I cannot take credit for Mister Brown. As a matter of fact, a few heads are rolling around here for letting him get as far as he has.

Well at first I thought Obama was well falling behind on his promises, I was caught up in the media's expectation. then I thought about health care and his foriegn policy, and how much further he came than anyone before, not to mention how the world has warmed up to us now - but what really changed my mind when it came to obama's first year was this article and the allegory it provided check it out

http://keironjackman.wordpress.....-contract/

Dai Alanye | 1.18.10 @ 8:39AM

The referenced article compares Obama to a general contractor, hiring sub-contractors to rebuild a decrepit mansion.

Good analogy, as long as we understand that Obama is so inexperienced and lacking in aptitude that he doesn't even know which end of a hammer to grab.

Adumbrate| 1.18.10 @ 11:52AM

Dems have been in control since 2006. Bush has not passed a single law since 2005. This is democrat rule, they suck at it, cause they just want to get even with the movers and shakers. A world without movers and shakers = Haiti, before and after earthquake.

doc| 1.18.10 @ 2:17PM

Obama set his own bar. He is compared to the standard he set in the promises he made. He set himself up for that, because he cannot separate his campaign rhetoric from grim reality. He has demonstrated with remarkable clarity, that he is nothing more than a thoroughly ordinary politician. He will be the last to see that.

Good column. I support Scott Brown and most patriotic Americans with good Common Sense support him as well. Massachusetts rocked the cradle of liberty back in the 1700's and she appears to be doing so again. John Adams is smiling somewhere as is his cousin who is probably walking the streets of Boston, fanning the flames of brushfires he has lit in the minds of men.

S.L. Toddard| 1.18.10 @ 7:25AM

It bears repeating: Scott Brown is yet another status-quo perpetuating, establishment-friendly Big Government Republican. Did no one watch the debate the other night? I did. The candidate who came off the best - and by "the best" I mean the most honest and fiscally conservative - was Joe Kennedy, a Libertarian who's running as an independent. Scott Brown and Martha Coakley both seem ready for the Beltway Big Leagues – unfortunately, like everyone else in the Beltway both Brown and Coakley spoke entirely in meaningless generalizations and slick, substance-free soundbites. They were both playing the game the way it's supposed to be played - shoveling horse sh*t for the suckers, smiling and reading from the establishment script. Joe Kennedy though - he seemed out of place, to say the least. He got up, said what he believed, said if you agree with him you should vote for him. He said he'd cut spending. He pointed out that Scott Brown has *NO PLANS* to cut spending. He said he'd reject Obamacare. He pointed out that Coakley would not reject Obamacare. He spoke plainly and plainly honestly - the man was genuinely sincere. It was distinctly odd seeing that - a real human being behind one of those podiums. Martha Coakley wants to confiscate Americans' wealth to centralize money and power in Big Government to enact massive and massively expensive social programs. Scott Brown wants to confiscate Americans' wealth to centralize money and power in Big Government and waste it policing the globe and waging perpetual wars all over the planet.

Joe Kennedy (no relation to *The* Kennedys) advocates a non-interventionist foreign policy, and would disengage from our Big Government nation-building projects in the Middle East. He pledges to cut taxes and cut spending - really cut spending, I mean - by ending myriad costly federal boondoggles both at home (Obamacare) and overseas (Iraq/Afghanistan). Unfortunately (for proponents of patriotic immigration reform) he more or less advocates amnesty for illegals and seems not to care too much for border control. But, since both Scott Brown and Martha Coakley plan to leave the border wide open anyway I have to endorse Joe Kennedy over the other two - and so should any fiscal conservative. I repeat: Scott Brown has NO PLANS to decrease spending. Scott Brown will GROW government.

Joe Kennedy is consistently small government, pro-Constitution and pro-Liberty. He is misguided on immigration (and I'm sure I disagree on more than that with him, being that he is a Libertarian and I am not), and that's as important an issue as any, but he is (practically speaking) no worse than the other two on that issue, as both Coakley and Brown are de facto open-borders supporters. On the rest of the issues Joe Kennedy is better and more fiscally conservative.

For people who are happy with the status quo, who are comfortable with phony politicians expanding the size and power of government, they can flip a coin and vote either Brown or Coakley. For anyone who is sincere about decreasing the size of the federal government there is only ONE candidate who considers that a goal - Joe Kennedy.

Conservatives may either vote for the candidate who pledges to cut taxes, slash spending, revoke massive government projects, decrease the size of the federal government, return power to the states (and people) and *enforce the Constitution* - or they can vote for one of the two Big Government candidates (Coakley or Brown) who intend to do *none* of those things.

Great article but you sure didn't hear about it during Fanni and Freddie's melt down. Loved this...''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.''
Barry needs to be the next to go!

Anthony| 1.18.10 @ 9:02AM

Hey Toddard, give it a rest. Take your 3rd party crap and stuff it. A vote for Kennedy is a vote for Coakley. This election is MONUMENTAL and Toddard the fool is fixated on a potential spoiler for Obama and national health care.

S.L. Toddard| 1.18.10 @ 9:34AM

A vote for Brown is a vote for the status quo - a vote for Big Government.

djmelfi| 1.18.10 @ 11:27AM

A vote for Brown is a vote against communism, there is absolutely no doubt Obama is a communist with his "Workers of the world unite" buddy Andy Stern and his general anti corporate USA with his perverted need to redistribute everything.

I am a committed Libertarian (enter joke here). However, with stakes as high as they are, if I were a Mass voter I would vote for Brown. Both parties share Libertarian ideals but lack in the basics of true liberty. Why can't we as Americans have both economic and social liberty? Isn't that what the Founders would want for us? Living our lives with small government, low taxes, able to make a living with whatever assests one has, and free to love and marry whoever we want as long as you don't impact others negatively. Sounds like heaven to me. The Republican party's future is with Libertarianism. Now, how to we separate the Religious right?

Don Jacobson| 1.18.10 @ 4:09PM

I'm a Libertarian here in Nebraska and somewhat agree with S.L. Toddard. But the reality of the situation is that Mr. Kennedy has no chance. S.L. Toddard needs to learn which battles to fight.

S.L. Toddard| 1.18.10 @ 5:54PM

Nice to hear from you Mr. Jacobson and Dr. C. I myself am *not* a Libertarian. I do not support the radical individualism that is the core of libertarian philosophy, and object to the libertarian open-borders, free trade uber alles ideal. That being said, I recognize that libertarians and anti-fed conservatives do have some things in common - important things, such as an opposition to Big Government (an opposition we do not share with most Republicans).

I am voting for Joe Kennedy (as are a small number of conservatives I have helped convince to do so) as a decentralist, anti-state conservative - not as a Libertarian.

Nelson H.| 1.18.10 @ 9:46AM

It would do you well to recall Bill Buckley's rule for selecting candidates: the rightwardmost viable candidate. Kennedy is not viable. While a lot of us are very sympathetic toward libertarian thought across many issues (particularly economics) there simply isn't room for two parties on the Right. What you need to do is win over the GOP on specific policies one by one, much as the old Socialist party won over the Democrats in decades past.

S.L. Toddard| 1.18.10 @ 9:53AM

"It would do you well to recall Bill Buckley's rule for selecting candidates: the rightwardmost viable candidate."

That is the "rule" that got us eight years of reckless spending, a DOUBLED deficit, the initiation of massive new social programs, an unnecessary and unjustified war that cost us 4000 American soldiers and billions (trillions?) of dollars, and that nearly got amnesty for illegals under Bush.

A vote for Big Government is a vote for Liberalism - period.

S., some of us Bush supporters are just now opening our eyes, big-time. Right now we are trying to stop the Reid-Pelosi agenda. After Tuesday, I personally will be learning more about Libertarian principles, especially on fiscal/economic matters, also about how to work effectively to elect good candidates. I expect you will see more support for some of your preferred candidates in coming months and down the road. For right now, we'd appreciate your support for the immediate problem of govt takeover of health care, i.e. we'd appreciate your support of Scott. Could you work with us? Please?

TomB| 1.18.10 @ 3:03PM

I've been a registered Libertarian for over a decade. What third-party people need to accept is that, until a third-party successfully runs a local government it will never be trusted with a state government. Until there is a prominent third-party politician at the state level there won't be room for any at the national level. Vote Libertarian (or Natural Law, or Green, or whatever grabs your imagination) for School Board, but cast your vote for the best option available at the higher levels that has some possibility of finding natural allies in office.

Notice how even inartful and possibly incompetent pols can hold office and have an impact on the debate as long as they have someone with whom to trade favors.

Northwind| 1.18.10 @ 3:32PM

Great advice. Also whenever possible, and accurate, we should play up the contribution of the Independents to the outcome of the elections. Brown is winning because of overwhelming Independent support. It gets cast into yet another Coke/Pepsi contest. I'm for trying to keep gridlock in the government when possible to slow the nuts on both sides down, and for voting for candidates than might actually represent the people for a bit - not their party or corporate sponsors.

Mark Shepler| 1.18.10 @ 9:46AM

A couple of days before the tectonic shift of the 1994 elections I got through to Rush Limbaugh. The topic of the day then, as it is forever for conservatives first and conscientious Republicans second, was whether a particular candidate somewhere was "conservative" enough or ought the voters pull the lever for the also-ran candidate to "send a message". I said to Rush, "I'm voting a straight Republican ticket for the first time in my life because we need a general change of attitude across the board from the highest offices in the land to the local dog catcher". And so we do, once again. Scott Brown probably doesn't measure up to my conservative standards, which have evolved somewhere to the right of Attila the Hun, but anyone who thinks his ascendancy to win Teddy Kennedy's seat in the darkest heart of liberalism is meaningless or even not enough ought to have his head examined and most certainly his political acumen. Every candidate in every district can not, nor should not, fit a perfect ideological mold. Brown will be more than conservative enough for his state and shift one district of the US political landscape several degrees rightward. Merely stopping the leftward drift is a positive right now. It's proof that even in a wonderland of liberalism there is a limit to the madness among normal people and opens the way for other conservatives of various degrees to move forward there. Meanwhile, we do the same across the land in every election great and small and on Wed, Nov. 3, it will be a new day in America.

Sam Vaughn| 1.18.10 @ 10:11AM

What utter nonsense. I've seen S.L. Toddard comments in the past. Sounds like a "paid shill" for Saul Alinsky and the left. I'll bet you haven't worked a day in your life where you were actually responsible for producing results.

S.L. Toddard| 1.18.10 @ 10:38AM

You've mentioned that before. Where is it that you people learn about "Saul Alinsky"? Talk radio? I'm assuming talk radio. So many of you have the same slim grasp on politics, and the same limited set of buzzwords that you are not entirely familiar with (Saul Alinsky, "cultural marxism", "moral equivalence" etc). They had to come from either the same talk radio program, or the same talk show host's book.

Which is it?

Hillary's graduate thesis?

Bruce Majors | 1.18.10 @ 11:56PM

Is it just me, or does SL Toddard read like "slow retard"?

You sound like a "liberal" pretentiously asserting your superiority to conservative talk radio listeners. Though surveys show they are the most informed audiences, and these shows routinely cover news a day or two before the TV networks.

What about concepts like "moral equivalence" is too recherche or complex for your little mind?

To S.L. Toddard: Kennedy is polling at 3%, thinking this is where you would poll too if you were running - you used 3 pages to make a point.

S.L. Toddard| 1.18.10 @ 2:04PM

Wonder if it has possibly anything to do with the media blackout, especially at "conservative" publications. There is one candidate in the race who pledges to cut taxes, slash spending, revoke massive government projects, decrease the size of the federal government, return power to the states (and people) and *enforce the Constitution* and yet the only mention of him in American Specator is... from me.

Perhaps these are not exactly goals shared by this webzine?

Bruce Majors | 1.19.10 @ 12:00AM

Maybe you can get the editors at "Reason" to cover Joe Kennedy. Though it is a little late now

victor| 1.20.10 @ 10:16AM

Media Blackout??
No one is stopping you from blogging and posting for a fringe member of a fringe group on your blog or your other sites, eh?
You may as well be supporting Dorian Gray.

Die Fledermaus| 1.18.10 @ 2:00PM

You really should get those ronpaulyps looked at.

Bruce Majors | 1.19.10 @ 12:02AM

Ron Paul is probably responsible for Brown's victory, in that the Paulites fueled the Tea Party movement when the 2008 election was over.

Careful little mouse. Ignorant rodents usually end up dead in a trap.

victor| 1.20.10 @ 10:18AM

Ron Paul??
He was and is nowhere to be found at Tea Party events.
And Joe Kennedy?
Run against Brown?
He should be running for the nearest exit.

Bruce Majors | 1.18.10 @ 11:46PM

It is possible to respect Joe Kennedy and still want Scott Brown to win so as to knife the Obama regime and its agenda.

Joe can run again. Against Brown

Michael F.| 1.19.10 @ 12:22AM

Either your name is Joe Kennedy, or you need a prescription for what's happening above your collar.
I recall just recently saying STFU to you. Now do as you're told, Toddard.

Osamas Pajamas| 1.19.10 @ 2:18AM

I'm a libertarian and a vote for the libertarian candidate is a wasted vote in this special election. In the best of all possible worlds, the Republican party would become substantially libertarian, the Democrat party would become defunct, and the Libertarian party would harry the Republicans ever and onward toward the side of liberty.

S.L. Toddard| 1.18.10 @ 7:39AM

... also, I'm largely in agreement with the above poster regarding "chicken choking". Said activity has greatly clarified my thought process.

Jim O'Brien| 1.18.10 @ 7:41AM

The Democrats have their heads up their asses. For example, Bill Nelson, Democrat Senator from FL, is still telling me in his canned letters that the Senate health care bill would reduce the deficit. And Obama would have seniors believe that their Medicare benefits will not change, even though the legislation calls for $500 billion in cuts to Medicare. These Democrats are: a) stupid; b) totally corrupt; or c) both. I think it's "c".

xcon| 1.18.10 @ 2:46PM

Amen to that!!
How we can not find a conservative that can successfully challenge that doofus Bill Nelson is beyond me. Maybe by 2012 another Marco will appear.

Howard| 1.18.10 @ 8:21AM

I'm voting for Mr. Brown on Tuesday. I think we have a real shot at winning!!

Deborah D | 1.18.10 @ 8:28AM

Thanks for this column, Mr. McCain. Americans are waking up -- thanks to all out there who have enabled this awakening in liberal Massachusetts. Perhaps we should thank Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd etc. for showing us their contempt for the American people over this last year. They've managed to offend nearly every American voter. Thanks guys for showing us your true selves.

Guess what, Americans still love their country (so stop apologizing for us everywhere you go.) We still love freedom (so stop trying to steal it from us with every bill you try to pass.) And, Americans want the country to prosper (so stop putting up roadblocks to that with every breath you take.)

We're coming for you.

LQQKY| 1.18.10 @ 9:50AM

This reply is to Howard as well: Try as I might, I cannot stop the flashbacks to Minnesota's election of Al Franken. As we all know, the dumocrats kept recounting until the results suited them. That is the only reason that they have a filibuster proof majority today! Let's hope that history doesn't repeat itself.

LeftCoastRightBrain| 1.18.10 @ 12:23PM

Scott's only real chance to get to DC is a win by more than 8%. The Dims will try to manufacture votes but a margin in that neighborhood will make it impossible (well...I hope) for them to pull off a major vote fraud trick.

Katie| 1.18.10 @ 2:40PM

Everyone in Massachusetts, please go to the polls! Give Scott a landslide so he can be seated right away!

This was the Kennedy seat, don't you know; a Democrat seat in perpetuity. How dare any R interloper think otherwise; how dare the people of MA think otherwise as well.

As well that flim-flam artist, Why isn't Bill Clinton donating from his 120MIL foundation built from speaking fees and middle east oil thugs. Being a democrat right now is like having the plague. Obama campaigned as different from the "politics as usual" kind of politician. He was right, except in this case, different is much worse than usual. He managed to fool the independents, but has been exposed as a fraud. The corruption under Obama is open to see with the bribes to Nelson, Landrieu and the unions. Everything is not transparent, and anything bad is George Bush's fault.

Robert Stacy,

I am shamelessly, copy pasting my comment on your blog here. I want it to see more readers and those blogs don't last long...darn it, and many of them are splendid.

I am earnestly praying that Mr. Brown be elected in Massachusetts.
But,
There is no logical reason I can see that he can be.

It shouldn't even be a contest, folks, unless a lot of embarrassed Democrats decide to stay at home on Tuesday.

Does anyone here NOT living in MA understand just how much money the Democrat party has paid for every vote up there?

Well, a friend of mine that lives there tells me the cumulative sum over the last ten years is in the tens of billions of dollars....
government subsidies...
University subsidies...
featherbedded government unions ...
teacher unions...
sweetheart government contracts...
welfare queens...
...all the things the federal government Democrats want for the whole country.

Scott Brown winning in MA would be nothing less than God Himself taking mercy on the citizens there yet one more time.

See, the citizens I know there...misspell their own State name: they spell it Taxachussetts.

Guess where most of those taxes go?
(see above)

Nevertheless, I do pray earnestly that Mr. Brown wins. It would be a miracle on the scale of the Red Sea parting to allow the Israelites to escape from bondage under the Egyptians.

It may need to be a case of Sodom and Gomorra, where the "righteous men and women" may simply have to flee and not look back lest they turn into a pillar of salt.

Eye C| 1.18.10 @ 10:33AM

Poor Martha Coakley! She may be clueless, but lets face it. The issues that are driving this election are the Economy, Jobs, Healthcare, and Corruption. The country desperately needs an economic recovery and jobs before we worry about healthcare. What Obama and the national Democrats have given us is an orgy of corrupt special interest spending and debt that hasn't created a single job, while they've pushed a healthcare bill so loaded with corrupt deals it can't possible be good for the nation. The UNEMPLOYED and the ECONOMY have been at the bottom of the priority list with the unemployed left to stew in misery! And we're told that Obama's policies may condemn the U.S. to decades of double digit UNEMPLOYMENT? The really clueless people are sitting in D.C. trying to pass a corrupt health care bill while UNEMPLOYMENT lines get longer and longer!

I just read this in the NYT piece on Obama's speech in Boston: "The president, who was making his first political appearance of the midterm election year, acknowledged the anger, but he accepted none of the blame."

Says it all, doesn't it? If he even seemed interested in the people's opinions, it would be one thing. If he admitted he had made mistakes or not explained his policies sufficiently, it would be another. Or if he had said US citizens should grade his performance, not himself. He mistakes arrogance with leadership, and this arrogance is beyond belief--this pushing massive and systemic change through no matter what the electorate thinks.

Meanwhile, if I see Michelle Obama on another magazine cover in a $10K dress, I'm going to scream.

One thing that I find the most helpful is number five. Sometimes when I write, I just let the flow of the words and information come out so much that I loose the purpose. It’s only after
editing when I realize what I’ve done. There’s defiantly a lot of great tips here I’m going to try to be more aware of.
I really like the fresh perpective you did on the issue. Really was not expecting that when I started off studying. Your concepts were easy to understand that I wondered why I never looked at it before. Glad to know that there’s an individual out there that definitely understands what he’s
discussing. Great job

The only chance for the PEOPLE to pushback against the Obama Regime.

ibc | 6.1.11 @ 6:58AM

At the start of this campaign, the issues were health care and the economy. After “Ted Kennedy’s seat” and “Curt Schilling the Yankees fan” and “only the little people campaign at Fenway,” the genius Dems succeeded in making their own assumptions about one-party rule a very potent secondary issue. Very foolishly, Obama both underlined the regal hauteur of the Massachusetts machine — and simultaneously nationalized the election by portraying it as a referendum on the Hopeychange. If Martha now loses, he can’t plead it’s nothing to do with him.

ทางเข้าibc | 6.1.11 @ 6:59AM

However things turn out, the Dems have got a fright. I would be surprised if many candidates in November are quite the same spectacular combination of gaffe-prone stupidity and arrogance as Martha Coakley. But, granted that, I was surprised at how incompetent the Democrat machine was. On Sunday, the president veered between dull and really, really lousy. He did what he did with his Olympics pitch in Copenhagen — he took the extraordinary step of flying in to save the day, and then when he got there thought he could wing it. He, or at any rate his minders, should know by now that his rhetoric is seriously underperforming — “incoherent without his teleprompter and a bore with it.” Yet his staff allow him to stagger around as the last believer in his own magic. What sort of functioning pol would be so careless as to say “Everybody can own a truck”? He should talk to any New England dealership about that. As it happens, I bought a new truck* last month and I’ve never seen the place so empty.

mmmbet | 6.1.11 @ 7:02AM

Well, as a wintry election day dawns in Massachusetts, I’ll believe it when I see it. If all but one of those polls are right, Scott Brown now has a lead well beyond the margin of error. But, as that Boston Globe “Dead Heat!” headline suggests, it’s not necessarily beyond the margin of Acorn, the margin of lawyer, and the margin of Franken-style recounts. On the other hand, if you’re minded to (as MSNBC’s electokleptomaniac Ed Schultz recommends) steal the vote, you don’t really want to have to steal it big, on a Mugabe-esque scale.
