Would The Obama Admin Have Called An Attack on a Muslim Deli Random?

What can I say about the Obama Administration’s insistence that the attack on the Hyper Cacher grocery in Paris on January 9th was random rather than an attack of anti-Semitism?

Both Jonathan S. Tobin and Jonah Goldberg have written compelling statements about the Obama Administration’s stupidity in this regard.

With this in mind, I will only add the following thoughts.

First, had such an attack occurred at a Muslim deli, grocery store or establishment not only would have President Obama not said such attacks were random, but Josh Earnest would never have said that they weren’t targeted by name nor would have Jen Psaki said the victims were not of one background or nationality. If a Muslim deli had been targeted and had the gunman responsible said he was targeting them because they were Muslim then you can bet Obama and company would have not only emphasized that detail, but would have announced an international summit on Islamophobia at the White House.

Second, I am aware that Earnest and Psaki have sent out tweets that now state the attacks were, in fact, motivated by anti-Semitism. But both reek of CYA. Psaki’s tweet was particularly galling. “We have always been clear that the attack on the kosher grocery store was an anti-semitic that took the lives of innocent people,” Psaki protested. Yet only hours earlier both Earnest and Psaki were clear in stating otherwise.

Finally, when you couple the Obama Administration’s desire to bend over backwards in reaching a nuclear agreement with Iran and their disdain of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, it is reasonable to conclude that they are less than enthusiastic in speaking out against anti-Semitism.
