West Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus

Joe Manchin on Fox News Sunday, December 19, 2021 (Fox News/YouTube)

It’s Christmas in America, and we just got our present. Although West Virginia is coal country, its Democratic U.S. senator, Joe Manchin, actually blocked the monstrous sack full that Biden and the Democrats planned to dump on us this Christmas. Manchin publicly promised to vote down their Build Back Better horror bill that would waste money we don’t have on liberal garbage we don’t want, including amnesty for millions of illegal aliens and billions for Green New Deal programs.

Perhaps the worst nation-damning item in the bill was the expansion of taxpayer-funded abortion via the exclusion of the Hyde Amendment prohibiting it — to make us all King Herod–level slaughterers of the innocent. Fortunately, like the Magi, Manchin — while still a member of the party advocating this abomination — took a different route. Thus, we can all celebrate the Savior’s birth this Saturday knowing many more babies shall be born in peace.

Despite some liberal leanings, Manchin understands his constituents and is something most modern Democrats are unfamiliar with — a man.

To no one’s surprise, Biden and the Democrats reacted about as well as the degenerate king of Israel did (“When Herod saw he had been tricked by the Magi, he became very enraged” –Matthew 2:16). Their condemnations of Manchin filled the media annals. The White House all but called him a liar: White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said his comments “represent a sudden and inexplicable reversal in his position, and a breach of his commitments to the president.” Additional not-so-friendly fire followed, with Democratic banshees sounding a far cry from Christmas caroling:

“He has continued to move the goal posts. He has never negotiated in good faith.” –Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.).

“He routinely touts that he is a man of his word, but he can no longer say that.” –Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.).

“Manchin’s excuse is bullshit.” –the decidedly non-angelic Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.).

“Joe Manchin does not get to dictate the future of our country.” –Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.).

Of course, Hollywoke had to get into the act too. Unctuous harpy Bette Midler flaunted her utter contempt for the hardworking people of West Virginia, tweeting, “What Joe Manchin … has done to the rest of America, who wants to move forward, not backward, like his state, is horrible. He sold us out. He wants us all to be just like his state, West Virginia. Poor, illiterate and strung out.” Massive blowback forced Midler to apologize for her tweet, but it nonetheless revealed what she and her ilk really think of more than half their potential audience.

Naturally, in screeded Ebenezer Scrooge himself, AKA Bernie Sanders: “West Virginia is one of the poorest states in this country. You’ve got elderly people, you’ve got disabled people, who would like to stay home but are forced into nursing homes. He’s going to have to tell the people of West Virginia why he doesn’t want to expand Medicare to cover dental, hearing and eyeglasses.”

Manchin will have little trouble validating his position to West Virginia voters, where 74 percent oppose the Build Back Better bill. What Marxist fools like Sanders and Midler can never comprehend is a state populated by Americans of dignity and honor. They would rather earn a Waltons’ Christmas than take handouts from a tyrannical government. Despite some liberal leanings, Manchin understands his constituents and is something most modern Democrats are unfamiliar with — a man. He knows what leftist lunacy looks like while opposing almost his entire party. “I’m from West Virginia,” he said. “I’m not where they’re from and think they can beat the living crap out of people.” (READ MORE: Thank You, Joe Manchin — and James Madison)

There is more good news to celebrate this Christmas. One year ago, I wrote my most widely circulated column here — retweeted by President Trump (shortly before his Twitter banishment) and read on air by Rush Limbaugh (shortly before his death) — on the suicidal leftward tilt of Fox News. I listed whom they had to oust to right their media ship, including commentator Donna Brazile, reporter Kristin Fisher, Politics Editor Chris Stirewalt, and anchorman Chris Wallace. Last week, the last of these, “rabid Trump-sniping chipmunk” Wallace, mysteriously “resigned.”

In their place, and since then, Fox personalities — Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, Greg Gutfeld, Mark Levin, and Steve Hilton — have become even more outspokenly conservative, driving a ratings surge over not just their news competition but, in Gutfeld’s case, his late-night comedy rivals. Carlson is currently making the Left apoplectic with documentaries such as Patriot Purge — which journalistically defies the absurd poli-media narrative of a January 6 “insurrection” — and guests like Jesse Kelly, who last week unabashedly slammed wokeness in the U.S. military.

“We don’t need a military that’s woman-friendly,” Marine combat veteran Kelly said. “We don’t need a military that’s gay friendly, with all due respect to the Air Force. We need a military that’s flat-out hostile. We need a military full of Type ‘A’ men who wanna sit on a throne of Chinese skulls.… They [military leaders] don’t even consider looking at the military and protecting America because they don’t give a crap about America.” The Fox News of a year ago would have melted down before such unwoke candor, but success stories like the Daily Wire have given it more courage against the system.

Meanwhile, West Virginia isn’t the only state the Democrats cannot fathom. There are freedom-lovers in all 50. And Biden dares to threaten them for Christmas. “We are intent on not letting Omicron disrupt work and school for the vaccinated,” he prepared to say in a speech Tuesday. “You’ve done the right thing, and we will get through this. For the unvaccinated, you’re looking at a winter of severe illness and death for yourselves, your families and the hospitals you may soon overwhelm.”

With messaging like this, it is the Democrats who will encounter the grim Ghost of Christmas Future after November 2022.
