U.S. Open: a Boon for Michelob?
by

I was going to do a semi-long blog post explaining why the obvious short list for the U.S. Open golf winner this week would include K.J. Choi and Steve Stricker, both of whom have played well (or won!) at Congressional in the past and both of whom have won big tournaments in the past month or so. I also was going to dazzle people with my long-shot pick of Brandt Snedeker to be in the final two pairings and possibly win the whole thing.

But instead, in the belief that there are “horses for courses,” and recognizing that with the exception of just  a few random bad rounds one of the more consistent players this year (finishes of 8, 12, 16, and 20 in just a few tournaments played so far), with good stats for a US Open as well (8th in total driving, 10th in ball striking, 19th in par-4 performance), I present to you a sectional qualifier for this year’s field, the 2005 champion of the Booz Allen championship on this very same Congressional Country Club course, and the star of one of the great beer commercials ever….

Sergio Garcia.
