When Abdul El-Sayed defeated “moderate” Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) to claim the Democratic nomination for the Senate in Michigan, far left members of the party and their allies in the corporate news media responded with unabashed elation. It is by no means clear, however, that these people understand the significance of El-Sayed’s narrow victory. This primary was just the latest manifestation of the collaboration between neo-Marxist progressives and radical Islamists. This affiliation is neither incidental nor harmless. These extremist groups share two common objectives — the destruction of Israel and the corruption of Western democracies.
Like most subversive movements the Red-Green Alliance, as it is sometimes called, began as a small and rather ludicrous group of four far-left primary candidates who successfully challenged establishment Democrats in deep blue House districts. We now know them as the Squad — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.). They were inevitably the beneficiaries of fawning media coverage from the New York Times, CNN, the communist magazine Jacobin, the Islamist publication Al-Jazeera, ad infinitum. The corporate “news” media in general heralded the Squad as a progressive alternative to the alleged evils of “Trumpism” and Ocasio-Cortez soon became their mascot.
The far left’s celebration of shared victimhood and anti-colonial rhetoric will provide Islamists with camouflage that they will quickly shed if their war on the West succeeds.
And her utterances reinforced the notion that the Squad was little more than a joke. While discussing climate change initiatives she brayed, “We need to invent technology that has never even been invented yet.” On unemployment she offered this nonsense: “I think the numbers that you just talked about is part of the problem, right? Because we look at these figures and we say, ‘Oh, unemployment is low, everything is fine, right?’ Well, unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs.” Speaking about the electoral outlook for Democrats she opined, “If we work our butts off to make sure that we take back all three chambers of Congress — rather, all three chambers of government: the presidency, the Senate, and the House in 2020.” The GOP took them seriously only to the extent that they revealed how unserious the Democrats had become.
After all, Bernie Sanders had long been in Congress and proudly proclaimed himself a socialist. The Republicans understood that, when Sanders ran for president twice, the Democrats themselves sabotaged him both times. Consequently, they assumed that if any Democratic Socialist became too ambitious he would meet the same fate. This was serious miscalculation. While Joe Biden spent four years convalescing in the White House, his autopen turned out to be a DSA member. Then Zohran Mamdani became New York City’s Mayor. Wade Miller, Executive Director of the Center For Renewing America, describes the significance of this:
Because he was born abroad to non-American parents and intentionally groomed into neo-Marxist ideas, Mamdani’s ties to the constitutionally rooted fabric of Western civilization and what Charlie Kirk referred to as “the American way of life” are largely nonexistent. This is evident in his official swearing-in ceremony, in which he placed his hand on the Quran rather than the Bible as part of his oath of office. More recently, Mamdani used official mayoral resources to commemorate Nakba Day. Nakba is an Arabic term meaning “calamity” that is strongly associated with Palestinian jihadist movements; it refers to the reestablishment of Israel in 1948.
With this background it was inevitable that Mamdani would endorse Brad Lander, who defeated two-term Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) in the primary. Goldman is best known to the public for leading President Trump’s first impeachment, but that wasn’t good enough for Mamdani. At a rally for Lander, he made it clear that Goldman’s support of Israel and acceptance of AIPAC funding were disqualifying. All the candidates Mamdani endorsed echoed his Marxist-Islamist rhetoric. DSA member Darializa Avila Chevalier, for example, defeated five-term Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-N.Y.) after a vicious campaign during which she said that Espaillat had been “bought by the Israeli lobby to stay silent,” about the fabled “genocide” of Palestinians.
Avila Chevalier is also a co-founder of Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD). ABC News reports that CUAD routinely takes to social media to post drivel like this: “We are Westerners fighting for the total eradication of Western civilization.” What most of the legacy media fail to grasp about such candidates is that the Democratic Party is nothing more than a vehicle to gain ballot access. As DSA co-chair Gustavo Gordillo candidly explains, “Our candidates run as Democrats, we’re on the Democratic Party ballot line. We contest the primaries. And, when they’re in the legislature, they’re part of the Democratic Party caucus. But we don’t agree with the way the Democratic Party establishment organizes or runs its party apparatus.”
Meanwhile, according to a report in the Dallas Express, “Thirteen Democratic House members and candidates have signed onto a new centrist initiative called ‘Promise to America,’ explicitly declaring ‘We are capitalist, not socialist’ and calling for secure borders, fiscal responsibility, and national pride.” But these 13 Democrats don’t understand that there is far more at stake here than left versus right or capitalism versus socialism. The problem is far more profound than policy disagreements about health care, climate change, wealth taxes, or defunding the police. The Marxists and Islamists both advocate the destruction of Israel and the dismantling of Western democracy but have far different visions of the world that comes after.
The far left’s celebration of shared victimhood and anti-colonial rhetoric will provide Islamists with camouflage that they will quickly shed if their war on the West succeeds. The DSA poseurs don’t understand that their movement is viewed by Islamists as a product of Western culture and politics. If the Marxists-Islamist alliance achieves its goals, the armies of the Prophet will set upon their former accomplices — and theocrats are not patient with heretics.
