Spiking the Headline Football

Last Thursday I noted how the Washington Post so cleverly reformatted its daily “headline” emails in a way that facilitated burying stories coming out of the Republican Convention way “down the scroll,” so to speak.

On Friday, it seems, the Post decided to spike the football, JournoListically speaking.

The Post returned to its pre-GOP convention format, so that a “Highlights” section again leads the daily email. This permitted the lead stories of the day to be at the top, without regard to subject matter, as had been the case until the format was changed in advance of the Republican Convention.

The result? You guessed it. Candidate Obama’s speech and related stories on the Democrats’ convention took the first three places.

One week earlier, as I noted yesterday, Candidate Romney’s speech was in place #11 in the headline list. Congratulations to the Post editors, who have the courage of their convictions. They are not only in the tank, but also in our face about it.
