Santorum and Bella
by

The very first time I was supposed to sit down with Rick Santorum over coffee, he had to postpone: Bella, born just a few months earlier, had taken ill and was fighting for her life. This was back in late 2008.

When he dutifully rescheduled and we met after she recovered, I started by asking about her. I don’t remember what he said exactly, but I remember the sense I got, the depth of feeling that emanated from him: This man’s family came first, in a very genuine way. This man was real.

I’ll have more on Santorum and Bella when my column comes out here later this week.

May God bless little Bella.
