Politico is reporting that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has chosen Democratic Sens. Patty Murray of Washington, Max Baucus of Montana, and John Kerry of Massachusetts as his three picks for the “super committee” set up by the debt ceiling legislation. Murray chairs the Democrats’ Senate campaign committee, Baucus is chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and Kerry “has been lobbying for a spot.”
House Speaker John Boehner, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will each appoint three members as well to round out the 12-member super committee. The committee is charged with coming up with another $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction.
