I wasn’t going to touch the whole, over-the-top controversy about the homosexual group participating at CPAC. Then the homosexual group’s board chairman, Christopher Barron, said this:
Barron places the blame at the feet of Cleta Mitchell, the big-name Republican D.C. lawyer who was the attorney for the groups trying to keep marriage equality from coming to the District. Mitchell did not respond to multiple requests from Metro Weekly for comment.
”I think there’s a couple people in Heritage who, at the behest of Cleta Mitchell – who is just a nasty bigot … she got some of the people at Heritage early on fired up about this,” Barron says. …
He’s singing the same tune when it comes to DeMint, who is joined by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) in claiming GOProud as part of his reason for staying away from this weekend’s conference.
Of those calling for the boycott, Barron says, ”They’re all excited that Jim DeMint is boycotting. And that’s fantastic. I’m glad that he’s willing to be on the Island of Political Misfit Toys with [World Net Daily’s Joseph] Farah and the Concerned Women for America.”
This means war. Cleta Mitchell is a wonderful lady. Calling her “a nasty bigot” is beyond the pale. So are his cracks about DeMint et al. Somebody needs to lasso this jackanapes, teach him some manners, tell him to get a life, and send him packing. The way to claim you just want a fair hearing and reasoned debate for your unpopular positions isn’t to immediately slander anybody, much less salnder people deservedly and highly respected among the movement you are on your knees begging to be a part of.
Asking for tolerance of private behavior is one thing. Asking for tolerance of utter public obnoxiousness is another. All of those conservative leaders who out of the best motives have supported GOProud’s case for inclusion should now disassociate themselves from this wretched, rude creep.
Erick Erickson says the same.
To be clear, the problem with Christopher Barron isn’t that he’s homosexual. The problem with Christopher Barron is that he’s a flaming jerk.
