It’s being widely reported that President Obama is ready for another round of comprehensive immigration reform. But it is less clear whether he actually believes he has the political capital, post-bin Laden, to get legislation passed or he merely wants the political benefit of appearing to try.
The USA Today story linked above quotes Janet Murguia of the National Council of La Raza complaining that their expectations haven’t been met on immigration policy and also Mark Kirkorian of the Center for Immigration Studies pointing out that if the DREAM Act failed it will be hard to pass wider-reaching legislation.
