Possibly the weakest section in the Peter Wehner post comparing George W. Bush to Ronald Reagan that Jim Antle and Jeffrey Lord addressed is this one:

Some conservatives are highly critical of Bush’s Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), though history will vindicate that decision because much of the TARP money has been repaid, and its cost to taxpayers is lower than even its strongest early supporters expected (see here).

It’s possible, unfortunately, that history may vindicate TARP. But it shouldn’t.

Bush’s bailouts of Wall Street and the automakers were among his worst deeds, all the more so because they were undertaken under the banner of conservatism.
