Here I pair books with outfits because books are not only to be read but worn. Indeed, they can be our most intelligent, artful accessory. When thinking about books in this way, it then makes thorough sense to consider the look of your book in concert with your clothes before popping out the door. After all, one of the Latin terms for book is vade mecum—meaning “come with me.” Celebrating the design of beautiful books is especially important to do now, since electronic readers are stripping books of their unique covers and replacing them with a snooze-worthy shell of white plastic.
