DeMint on Rick Perry
by

“As soon as you endorse, the candidates stop listening.”

These were the words of Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) before a collection of journalists gathered at the Heritage foundation earlier today.

Despite this caution against early endorsements of 2012 presidential candidates, though, DeMint wasn’t afraid to praise prospective candidate Gov. Rick Perry, saying, “I think he’ll be a great candidate….He’ll stir things up in the race.”

When discussing the necessary qualities for a good Republican presidential nominee, DeMint also stressed the importance of ensuring that he or she epitomizes the “heart and soul of our party.”
