Debbie Escapes Liberal Hecklers at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES –Debbie Wasserman Schultz ended her speech at the Iowa State Fair early after she was heckled by angry liberals this afternoon.

The chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee was speaking at the Des Moines Register‘s Iowa Soapbox and was accusing Republicans of threatening Medicare when a man in the audience — apparently a disgruntled liberal — began shouting, “Obama put Medicare on the chopping block, Debbie!” The man continued shouting at the Florida congresswoman, expressing a growing discontent among the left about Obama’s debt-deal compromise with Republicans. The heckler also shouted, “Stop caving in to Wall Street!”

Democrat loyalists in the audience responded to the man’s heckling by chanting, “Debbie! Debbie! Debbie!” Amid the shouting Wasserman Schultz quickly brought her speech to an early conclusion, declaring Democrats would sweep to victory in 2012, and left the stage before the end of her appointed 15 minutes at the popular street-corner style event at the Iowa State Fair.

As Wasserman Schultz left the stage, she was pursued by a liberal activist wearing a Catholic Worker T-shirt who also interrogated her about the debt-deal compromise. The man said to her, “Your actions don’t back up your thoughts.… Obama was the one who put cutting Social Security and Medicare on the table,” to which Wasserman Schultz responded, “That is not true and you know it.”

The confrontation between the liberals and Wasserman Schultz came a day after Mitt Romney was heckled by a leftist in the same venue.
