On Monday I posted a blog about a Texas 4th-grader who had allegedly won a contest in the “junior division” of the National Science Fair for a project titled “Disproving Global Warming.” It turns out the story was a hoax, and I apologize to AmSpecBlog readers for increasing the amount of attention drawn to it without scrutinizing it more carefully. The gist of my commentary addressed the worthiness and judgment of the National Science Foundation in its practice of doling out grants for research and did not address the 4th grader’s victory per se, but nevertheless the story served as the linchpin for the post, which I regret.
