Conservative Challengers Strike Back

BOSTON — The delegates are going as fast as the mini-burgers at the Romney campaign reception. But Romney has not won all the contests tonight. Newt Gingrich decisively won his home state of Georgia, winning an absolute majority among evangelical voters. Rick Santorum came in second. Santorum has already won Oklahoma. This shows that resistance to Romney in southern and border states remains strong. Tennessee is still too close to call. Santorum had been leading there, but Romney has gained in the polls in recent days.

UPDATE: Santorum has won Tennessee, adding to Romney’s southern woes.

UPDATE II: Romney ultimately came in second in Georgia, not Santorum. Santorum led Romney in the earlier returns.
