Baby Incineration Reaches American Soil

What kind of world are we living in?

The British Columbia Health Ministry has admitted that the remains of babies destroyed by abortion in [British Columbia] facilities are ending up in a waste-to-power facility in the United States, providing electricity for residents of Oregon.

The province’s Health Ministry said in an email to the B.C. Catholic that “biomedical waste” shipped to the U.S. to be incinerated includes “human tissue, such as surgically removed cancerous tissue, amputated limbs, and fetal tissue.”

When the story broke that the British HHS was involved in this disgusting practice, it was somehow easier to swallow knowing the incinerators were an ocean away. However, knowing that baby body parts are being used to generate electricity in American homes gives the abhorrent reality a new urgency.

The tiny remains, presumably both aborted and miscarried, are transported in sealed boxes accompanying sawed-off hands and non-functioning kidneys. Once they arrive in Oregon, they undergo a transformation—from dead humans to electrical power:

The power facility, located in Brookes just off the I-5, burns waste in two massive boilers at a temperature of about 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat transfers into water tubes, which creates steam to drive turbines. The turbines generate electricity.

Where the HHS told me they have a chaplain take the babies and burn them in a designated incinerator, these little ones are thrown in with other “biomedical waste” to be disposed of the same way you would a failed liver or a cancerous tumor.

In 2007 the waste plant burned “about 800 tons (1,764,000 pounds) of medical waste per year.” Of course, that isn’t all the tissue of aborted babies, but the inclusion of them in this energy-creating scheme makes a reasonable human cringe.

Then again, we live in a nation losing sight of the sanctity of life. If the medical profession and liberal media consider those children “fetal tissue”—in many cases, invasive and unwanted “tumors”—it should not surprise us that they are disposed of in the same manner. At this point, most are simply thrown away to decay with other trash. Why not sacrifice them to the god of Green Energy instead?

This sickening reality should be repulsive.

Thankfully, not all is lost. Mississippi just became the sixth state to ban abortion after twenty weeks of gestation. Stories like that of baby Walter, born at nineteen weeks, are breathtaking and heart-wrenching. Walter died only minutes later, but proved to the world that he is clearly human. Babies at Walter’s age can feel pain, and Mississippi is finally protecting their inalienable right to life.

We need to investigate American hospitals to ensure that this disgusting practice ends immediately, but we must also passionately pursue the protection of life—especially for the smallest and most vulnerable among us.
