With only hours before Israelis goes to the polls, Benjamin Netanyahu has proclaimed there will be no Palestinian state as long as he is Prime Minister.
“I think anyone who is going to establish a Palestinian state and to evacuate territory is giving radical Islam a staging ground against the State of Israel,” said Netanyahu.
Perhaps Bibi feels liberated and has nothing to lose by going bold.
Of course, if he does remain in power the Obama Administration will move heaven and earth to pressure him into resuming negotiations with a Palestinian Authority now backed by Hamas. Throw in the Obama Administration’s desperation to get a nuclear agreement with Iran, it would be a very rough 22 months for Bibi and Israel and Netanyahu might have to very well give ground. But there could be light at the end of the tunnel if someone like Scott Walker were elected President.
If the Zionist Camp wins Obama will still put pressure on them to make concessions to the Palestinians even if they are amenable to returning to the negotiating table. But we have all seen this movie before. Israel makes concessions, the Palestinians want more. Then when it comes time to make a deal they say no. Why continue to play a game where we all know the outcome will end in failure. Because governments usually prefer to appear to be doing something especially if it achieves nothing.
The only state the Palestinians want is one that runs from the river to the sea. They want a world without Israel and sadly so do many other countries in the Arab/Muslim world and beyond. The fact the international community would rather have yet another failed Muslim state than one Jewish state in the entire world demonstrates why anti-Semitism is the world’s oldest hatred.
