The online scandal surrounding Rep. Anthony Weiner — the New York Democrat accused of using Twitter to send a crotch photo to a 21-year-old Seattle woman May 27 — appears to be spreading. There are three new developments in the story:
- The blogger known as Patterico, who in real life is a prosecuting attorney, has re-examined accusations that Weiner exchanged private Twitter direct messages (DMs) with underaged girls.
- Matthew Boyle of the Daily Caller finds that porn star Ginger Lee probably exhanged more than “pro forma” DMs with the congressman, contradicting his spokesman’s public statements.
- Andrew Breitbart reports that another woman “has come forward with what she claims are photographs, chats, and emails” with Weiner which “appear to undermine severely Rep. Weiner’s explanations that he was the victim of a ‘prank’ or a ‘hack.'”
Congress is in recess this week and major news organizations have not yet reacted to these developments in the story known by the Twitter hashtag label #WeinerGate, but it appears that we have not heard the last of this tawdry tale.
