Where There’s Smoke
by

Wednesday
Smoke and fire all over the state of Idaho and large parts of Washington. The smoke is painful and unhealthful. But we are still having a good time here. Last night, my friend Ken and I drove up to Hill’s Resort on Luby Bay in Priest Lake. My wife did not care to make the drive so she stayed home and rested.

The drive along the Pendoreille River was glorious, as always, but the smoke cut down on the ability to see colors. The gas station/grille/grocery store called Mama Mac’s was filled with its usual cheery customers.

Hill’s was jammed with wholesome, prosperous, happy-looking families. The waitresses and hostesses greeted us energetically. Come to think of it, everyone greeted us cheerfully everywhere we went. There are so many beautiful college girls working as servers at Hill’s, it is almost unbelievable. The ribs are spectacular. The view is breathtaking and out on the dock, everyone also greets me as if I were an old pal. I guess I am.

A large party near us was celebrating the birthday of a sweet-looking 13-year old. I sang, “Happy Birthday” to her and her 14-person family.

Joining Ken and me was a happily, recently married couple, also recently retired. Twenty years ago, when I first met the wife, she was suffering from an extremely aggressive cancer. Now, she is smiling and healthy and glowing with happiness. Miracles.

When I got home, I had an e-mail from my smartest friend, P. He asked three questions, which I pass on to you, dearly beloved readers:

“1.) We are advised not to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny how that works.

“2.) We constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. How come we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money? What’s interesting is that the first group worked for their money and the second group didn’t.

“3.) Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military, and cutting our military drastically—but we are not stopping payments to illegal aliens such as monthly payments for each child, money for housing, food stamps, free education including college?”

I would like to add another question. We now know that Hillary Clinton violated federal law by storing secret government data on her personal computer, by destroying evidence of her actions in violating federal law, obstruction of justice, a felony, and possibly contriving to get third persons to aid her in destroying evidence of her obstruction of justice. She is also in violation of a House of Representatives subpoena to turn over all evidence of her behavior about her e-mail transgressions. She also clearly lied under oath to Trey Gowdy’s House Committee. There is strong evidence that she coerced contributions from foreign states to a family-controlled entity while Secretary of State.

Why is there no Special Prosecutor going after her right now? Every thinking man or woman in this country knows that if she were a Republican the hounds of legal hell would be baying after her this instant.

We know that the Obama “Justice” Department will protect her as long as possible. But there could be a House/Senate Special E-Mails Committee that could appoint its own special investigator. If that person turned up a report, it could be given to the Justice Department. If the AG stonewalled, the Congress could issue not just one but many citations for contempt. The MSM would block and tackle for Mrs. Clinton. But after a while, they might be worn down.

The Democrats know how to play this game. They know how to play hardball. They have proved that over and over again. It is high time the GOP got its act together and took the field.

And now good night from smoky, but delightful, North Idaho.
