Pat Quinn has just called for him to resign, saying he’d use his powers as governor to appoint somebody to fill the seat temporarily until a special election can take place. This raises the prospect of Illinois having four different people hold the same Senate seat within a matter of months, and it also at least leaves a theoretical opening for a Republican, should the Democrats nominate another troubled candidate.
